peer to peer, no doubt about it
Well, you're (half) wrong.

come to chicago, i've never been dedicated yet, in fact, i play with australians 99% of the time...

I don't need to go anywhere to know they use dedicated servers (though also P2P depending on the circumstances). I've read the outgoing connections while playing matches. Some matches connect directly with other players (P2P), others connect to Choopa, a company that hosts dedicated game servers.

If it was pure 100% P2P, that wouldn't explain why you're connecting with Australians, as you should be connecting with players near you. However, Choopa doesn't have datacenters in Australia, so it could be that the Australians are connecting to a dedicated server based on the west coast of the US (there's a Choopa datacenter in LA).

If you install Wireshark and run it while playing a match, you should be able to tell, as you'll see Choopa connections if you're connected to a dedicated server.

Have you seen a host migration? That's usually a good indicator if you're on P2P connection. I don't know how the hell you're connecting to AUS servers. Even with P2P connection that's very odd. Are you sure you're not using a VPN or something?

It's sometimes P2P, and sometimes dedicated servers. This really isn't up for debate; you can see outgoing connections going to Choopa (a dedicated server host) in some matches.

Games are played on dedicated servers which are hosted and controlled by the company. There are no player-hosted or player-rented servers and there is no server browser.

FYI next year's CoD is made by Treyarch, and seeing as they developed support for player-hosted dedicated servers for Black Ops III and they had 100% dedicated servers in Black Ops II and Black Ops III, their new game will most likely have the same.
So many people still fall for their PR-Statements.

In any newer CoD (since Ghosts) there are 100% dedicated servers!
That's correct!
Because everyone (Activision too!) knows that is what almost every gamer wants.

But that does not mean that you will always play on dedicated servers!!
Activision calls it Hybrid-Servers, which are ded.servers and P2P system (listening servers).
The ded.server can be switched off at any time, which also happens regularly (Ghosts, AW, IW etc).

Whenever you see the message "Host Migration" in the game, you can be sure that you are not playing on a ded.server....

Believe it or not, any newer CoD title will have Hybrid servers!
BO4(?) next year won't be different!

Its a mix when the dedicated are full, it switches to P2P.
Most of the time you will be on a dedicated server.

Only P2P right now as servers are down for fixing.

P2P same ♥♥♥♥ happened with For Honor game... same NAT problem, open or close... Exactly, lagg and connectivity issues and after the dedicated servers now run the multiplayer smoothly! :)
There is million options for good servers. For example blizzard have no any server issues... :) (ok sometimes)
Or hybrid server, same as Starcraft2 :) but something is wrong here. :D
