Sold the canned food but the guy still says that I have to sell them
Hello, started playing yesterday and I'm trying to help Shimmer. I know you can help him leave by boat so I sold the tickets I got from the doctor. Problem is that the guy from the boat says he will only help me if I sell his canned food... Which I already did. I sold it for 3000 to the trader. If I'm not mistaken, that is the price he asked me to sell it for, right? So what happened?

I think you traded it to the trader instead of using the dialogue to trade it. I guess its a bug?

Yeah I just sold it like every other item. It was the price the guy asked for, so I thought the dialogue was to try to get more or something like that. Anyway, something should happen, right? I could at least have the option to tell the guy what I did, give him back the money or something.

I think it is a bug. You are not supposed to sell it trough the trade option I think. When you choose the dialogue you only get 1500 I think.

But perhaps I am just completely wrong.

WAD. You can sell the thing to trader not using the dialogue and put the sailor in jail to gain maximum profit out of him.

Yes i you want to complete his task, you have to talk either to the merchant and make a offer to him, or to Miss Renark

If you make the offer to Miss Renark, however, the fish will be bad and cause food poisoning, causing trouble for the Missus, make the husband angry, and still get nothing for the sailor.

Yeah I did that the first time. Then I restarted the game and sold it to the trader... Not sure if I'll try again...

It's one of those little loose ends. The few things that irck me about the game.

This is not a bug at all.

So I can't continue that quest even after doing what he asked me? Ok...

If you want to complete the quest you choose to sell it by clicking on the dialogue option not selling it directly to the trader. Selling it directly is an alternative that players can do but that means you either have to get rid of the sailor or report back to him empty handed.

Even then I think one of the dialogue options after you report back to the sailor still allows the schimmers to get on the barge.

That's the problem here. When I talk to him, all he says is "if you want my help you have to sell my stuff". It's the only thing he says when I click the option to help the couple. But I've already sold his stuff.

Oh I see what you are trying to do now. You are trying to get more money out of the fish cans and be able to send the schimmers on the barge at the same time. Nope that doesn't work.

You either have to accept the fact that choosing the dialogue option when talking to the trader nets you less money but you can send the schimmers on the barge, or that you sell it directly to the trader for more money but you can't send them on the barge. There's no best of both worlds as far as I know.

EDIT: Actually I take the last part back. Theres actually a best of both worlds. You get the cruise ticket from the doctor instead of sending them on the barge.

That's what I did. I send the Schimmers on a cruise if you have the fake Sarah, that is the easiest and nicest way.

Well I wasn't actually trying to get more money. He told me to sell for at least 3k. I went to the trader and saw I could sell it for 3k. So I just sold it. I didn't even know the dialogue option would sell it for less, because that doesn't even make sense. I mean, he can pay 3k but if you talk about it he can't?
