The mother of the previous land lord says a line very early in the game about suspecting that the ministry resents them because they used to be rich. That sounds more communist to me than fascist. It could be either though, not sure.

Weird how this discussion got attention a month after it was asked but whatever.

I feel like the game takes place within the Eastern block (East Germany, imo), and the term 'totalitarian' is to describe the state watching over people constantly and arresting them for every little offense.
