He'll be back as soon as you search his apartment, no sooner. Since it's an introductory mission, it's scripted like that.

@Wights: yes, @Phoenix is right. The game gives an opportunity to search the apartment carefully and to find out whether there are any interesting things :) Jacob will come home a bit later and you'll be able to interact.

He turned up in my first game, but on two subsequent restarts he does not appear and the timer runs out, even though I have installed the camera and searched the apartment.

Did you follow the tasks at the upper left corner? When you searched his apartments and installed a camera - please, call the Ministry. They will give you a task and Jacob will come back! Also, don't forget to write a characteristics on Jacob.

Anyways...how do we write characteristics?
Guidsmaster Feb 18, 2017 @ 5:23am
bit off-topic but to profile somoene, you interact with your desk and select Profile tenant, then on the right side of your screen, open up the profiles tab and select the person you're trying to profile. Just fill in the info like male/female, name, apartment number, profession, etc, using the info from the profile you opened on the right side of the screen, (and your eyes, seeing which apartment they live in, who they live with and whether theyre male or female). Then you drag in all the habits you've discovered (you cant use evidence in profiling, only for blackmail or reporting). Note that you gain more cash if you submit more reports together; you end up with less cash if you submit characteristics 1 by 1. (Which is something I personally don't like, but I guess I can understand a complete report being worth more than 6 individual reports)

I'm in agreement with Wights and illbgreat on this one. The first game that I played allowed me to go through the tutorial, install cameras in apartment 2 and search it and at some point I started going to my desk and submitting profiles of the occupants. I played two games today and skipped through most of the tutorials. I used the phone to get the task of installing cameras in 2 and finding out information about him but I cannot submit any reports because my desk only has the option of searching it. I thought something was messed up the first time that I played it so I started a new game and went through it again and I still only have the search desk option even though I have the first two objectives checked off that I need to do... The person who lives in the apartment never appears which I believe he did the first time that I played the game before I submitted the report about him.

As far as searching the apartment, I find a pair of dice and a broken bottle. Do I need to find something in addition to that to trigger them to come home?

I figured out that the thing that I am missing is clicking on the red text to add the item. Great game btw. Reminds me a little of Neighbors from Hell.

Thank you, I also was flummoxed at this - I'll try clicking the red text. This was not clear to me.

i can't get him to show up no matter what i do. installed the cameras. clicked the items, everything is checked off...wait until timer runs out. talk to everyone...then they tell me i didn't do my job. repeated this 4 X. glad i didn't pay too much for this. probably an ok game, but it is either buggy or just not intuitive.

Did you call the Ministry?
Twogun May 4, 2018 @ 12:58pm
i called the ministry to get the original quest. then i tried calling because i saw that here, but there was no real dialogue to progress through. they basically said to file a report. however, i cannot do that, because i cannot file the report until i talk to him, but he wont show up. furthermore, when i click the desk icon, there is no 'file report' option, only inspect. like i said, i've tried it 4 or 5 times. read all the entries here. it's just a no go. he doesn't ever show up. ive never seen him.
Twogun May 5, 2018 @ 8:54am
it's a bit of a killer. when the first quest is bugged/unwinable it really makes you not want to continue. too many folks have reported it for it to be nothing. it's a bug.
Guidsmaster May 5, 2018 @ 9:11am
Are you sure everything's checked off? Usually once all three steps are checked off, the quest automatically updates to tell you to call the Ministry.

As in, you enter manisheks place, search for two items in there that have red text (i think it was gambling and drinking, i dont remember, though i think only one is required to progress), and then you CLICK THE RED TEXT from the description of those items. Also you purchase and install a camera within his apartment.

I havent checked the forums lately, but this thread has been necroed multiple times and in all cases it was on the players end. Hopefully that's the case here too.
