Collecting Evidence

I am probably being really stupid here, but how do you actually collect evidence so that you can report people. For example the old woman was reading a book, So I want to report her - but I don't have the evidence to complete the report. I have probably skipped over something obvious but it's making the game hard!

I know this one..when you see the icon above their head turn red, right click it and it should pop up in the evidence area....i think.

@V-Machine: if she reads a prohibited book, the icon above her head will turn red. You click it and it will be added to her profile as an evidence.

So yeah, just after I posted that I worked it out. I am a idiot!
Okay anouther thing, so I am searching the apartments for illegal items - and I find them, how do I then collect that as evidence - the only option I have is to steal?

I believe you need too actually click on the object before the text will go red allowing you to put it down as evidence.

I'm having trouble with it too. I understand how to collect evidence if they're doing the act. But if I find an illegal item in the drawer I have no idea what to do with it. If I steal it it doesn't let me report it. I just have it in my hand. If I try to plant it like in Beholder 2 (which I played first) It still doesn't count as evidence. It just sits there in the drawer or the bed or wherever I placed it. I cannot send any reports without evidence even though they have all this illegal stuff in their room and I've seen it!

If I am looking in the drawer and press the same button to acknowledge the evidence while looking at it nothing happens. So they're obviously is another action you have to do. I would love to know what it is. I googled to find out but this is the only thing that pops up.
