How in the world do I beat the final boss?
I have been trying for hours and hours, lost count of how many tries, and it is just impossible... Is this game even beatable?

haha, the game is beatable, all you have to do is shoot serene that will teleport to the top of time machine as soon as the wave is completed - it happens when you kill all the minor enemies. if you have further problems, search quantum break boss fight walkthrough in youtube. anyway, good luck!
Oh I understand the premise, indeed. I just don't understand how, with no hipfire, is this game supposed to be played like a run and gun instead of a cover-based shooter?

OK, it's REALLY confusing indeed.
But I found it. First you need to clear the floor, avoiding the red blasts that Serene throws at you.
Then Paul with start to throw NUKES at you. What youhave to do is run and hide behind the pillars, so it doesn't hit you, but hit HIM.
If you're not protected Jack will scream "no no no no".
After the nuke hits Paul, he will be vulnerable to your gunfire.
The second wave is stronger, with worst blasts, but goes the same way.
Clear enemies, hide from time nukes, shoot Paul after he hits himself.
The part I have trouble with is Paul's blasts, they seem to never give me enough information or time to dodge them, they also seem never ending? I have made it to the second wave for sure, made it till it was just the heavy left and got killed by the serene blasts, cuz I never know where is safe when pretty much the whole room turns red, I have no idea where the actual blast is located. Baaaaaad design...
Ok so I did manage to finally beat it, and it was fun. Allow me to list my flaws so anyone who stumbles upon this it may help. My tips are as follows...

1. KEEP MOVING!
2. Shotguns are your friend
3. NO MELEE, it slows you down and opens you to Serene's relentless blasts
4. If you see red, RUN, and just hope you do not run to the epicenter of his attack
5. Try to be frugal with the Time Dash, try not to run it out, so as to always have some when you need it!
6. TIME SHIELD, this helped a lot
7. Time dodge into enemies and fire shotgun to usually one shot them
8. After wave, Paul picks one corner of the arena to set a GIANT blast. RUN to opposite corner
9. And the most important one, this the one that kept me getting killed... STAY AWAY FROM THE HEAVY TROOPER, he is equipped with a mobile nullifier, and he get you killed if you get too close.

After playing it like this, I would dare say it was quite fun. Hope it helps anyone!

I've tried for one week and gave up then. Didn't manage to beat final fight and had delete the game. I hope you're more lucky and finally did it.
I did get it and it is a lot of fun, it just takes time. And the biggest thing I was doing wrong, was using the melee. Never use it, and stay away from the big guy, and keep moving and a win will come in time. Paul can also even kill his own allies and often does!

After many, many tries on hard mode I finally got it. Grab the full auto shotgun at the bottom of the swimming pool before starting, as it's a decent weapon. For the first wave, try to time dash into the guys to knock them back, then get head shots to take them out quickly. Keep moving as much as possible, but it's largely dependent on luck whether you get blasted when you're in the middle of killing an enemy- even though everything goes into slow motion for a moment, you still seem to be getting targeted by Paul at normal speed.

After the fourth enemy is killed, Paul will go to the middle of the room, say a few words, then place a mine with a blast that will fill about half the room. As soon as he places it, time dash to the other end of the room. The camera will deliberately screw you over by focusing on the mine and making it hard to aim, so you may have to run TOWARD the camera part of the way. After the blast goes off Paul's shield will drop and you can shoot him to trigger the second wave.

For the second wave, keep running laps around the pool continually or you'll die pretty much instantly. Don't stop, don't reverse direction. If you're getting shot too much, drop a time shield to cover your back and heal a little, but don't stand inside it, keep running. The red flashing isn't a good indicator of where or when Paul's blasts will go off- the floor turns red pretty much everywhere and lingers a long time both before and AFTER the actual blast, so instead pay attention to the sounds of the blasts, and if you need to kill any enemies or grab ammo, try to do it right after a blast so you're less likely to get caught in the next one. If you're lucky, most of the enemies including the big guy with the negation field will get taken out by the blasts eventually and you'll only need to kill one or two yourself. After that, Paul will drop the mine again- this time THREE mines in a row, so be sure to always be running away from them, using time dash or time rush when possible. Once you evade them, you'll be able to shoot him again, and luckily there isn't a third wave!

Finally done after 30 retries...

What an abrupt ending as well. So many questions unanswered.

He's not that bad once you know what to do. I've just beaten him on hard.

You need to understand Paul's attack. Periodically he creates a glowing orb right behind your back. When that happens, you will see an orange glow on your back. Run away. After a few seconds the orb explodes dealing damage if you're too close. It also leaves a glowing crater for a few seconds but it's completely harmless, you can even walk through it. Paul will then wait for a while and repeat the attack.
Important: During the attack there are red ripples on the floor - ignore them, they are more confusing than useful. Sometimes it even looks like there are some other explosions in front you but it's just an illusion.

Combat tactics:
  • Get used to Paul's attack. Learn to identify the period after the explosion (you can hear it!) but before the next attack begins. That's your window of opportunity to attack the enemies.
  • Run around the the edges of the level. Never go to the center. Try to spread the enemies in the room and separate them from each other.
  • Use Time rush+melee to kill the fast enemies. Often it allows you to escape the orb and kill someone at the same time.
  • Use Time dodge to escape the orbs.
  • Time blast can be useful if you time it well.
  • Use Time shield for defence but never stay in it. It won't make you immune to Paul's attack!
  • Kill the heavy enemy from a distance. He's slow, just run around and shoot him from far away. Do not get near him.
  • There's a backpack at the back of the level so don't worry about running out of bullets.

Hell no. I understood what to do at the early beginning. Still took me 30+ tries.

Does hiding behind pillars really work? I just used Time Dodge and Time Rush to get away from the blasts.
VERSAT1L Aug 30, 2020 @ 1:43pm
No it doesn't. The blast can get through anything. Just keep running clockwise (or anti-clockwise, same thing) and don't ever stop running no matter what. Even if you missed an NPC on your way, skip him and just come back to him later.
