Camera stutter, high fps feels sluggish
Some general info:

Win 10
cpu 4770k @4.4ghz
16gb 2666mhz ram
980ti
ssd
1440p 27" asus 144hz g-sync monitor

Ingame options:

2560*1440 resolution 144hz
everything to ultra except volumetric lightning set to medium
vsync off
film grain off
Upscaling ON...
aa on

mouse 1800dpi razer deathadder ingame sens 20%

The game feels sluggish and camera stutter is all over the place, like it runs on much lower fps than fraps are reporting.
(70-90 fps)

I made the mistake to change more than one thing, that I think may have something to do with the result.

1. I turned off g-sync in nvida panel

2. I switched to a xbox one controller (wired)

with g-sync off the game felt better than before, (placebo)?

Switching to a controller how ever made the stutter almost go away, maybe the game is dependant on some heavy acceleration?

Hopefully this could help some, cause it made me crazy.

TL-DR:

Will continue play the game with a controller even if not optimal for aiming with g-sync off.

Just found this out from someone else, if you are running full screen try turning it to borderless window, you may lose some frames but the judder for me dissapeared.

I run the game in fullscreen, tried borderless window yesterday I think it was, did noting for me then atleast, but good it worked for you

Looks like I am the victim of placebo too)

Wow, thx for the tip!! Switching to borderless now feels like true 60 fps. Before that, it felt like 40 fps even if my monitoring was displaying a steady 60 fps with vsync.

I can confirm this. Switching to boderless fullscreen removes the stutter. It seems that Remedy needs to fix the framepacing with exclusive fullscreen mode enabled. ;)

I have one advice for you: monitor hardware's temp when switching to borderless mode. Cause system have to render your desctop and game same time. My GTX 970's temp up over 65 C inborderless. In Fullscreen mode about 50-55

While this can 'solve' the issue it's just temporary. Even in exclusive fullscreen it might enough to just alt-tab out and back in. It can stutter like mad even in borderless fs. The game is rather unstable in that regard.

This seems to have helpped. Thanks

There are serious frame pacing issues. Can be mitigated by setting Maximum Prerendered Frames to 1 in NVIDIA Control Panel. Game will also randomly lock to 30 FPS due to idiotic double buffered V-sync, so you want to use Adaptive V-sync if don't have G-sync or Adaptive TearControl in NVInsp if you are using G-sync. Also locking to 0.010 Hz below exact max refreshrate helps even more to avoid this glaring stupidity, more explained here: https://www.blurbusters.com/howto-low-lag-vsync-on/

i was getting a stable 165fps which was to be expected as i'm playing a game from 2016 in 2023 with a 3070 but it looked really choppy

if anyone cares seven years later,

playing with a controller fixed it for me

no idea why or how that works

Locking the FPS to 90 fixes the stuttering when playing with mouse.

95 FPS works even better I find (found people suggesting that number with Control, and it works here as well). Above that it causes problems.
