The time difference between bronze and plat is often not great enough.
Plat can stay where it is, but the others need a bit more time scaling, especially silver and definitely bronze.
Bronze should be achievable for players who are still knicking the walls a bit.
Redout is so far the only anti-grav racer on PC that is actually intuitive and consistent controls. This game, it just does not flow right at all. Overall control and steering is mediocre at best. And objectively-speaking, the time trials are far too stiff. Easily get cold/plat on every other mode? Welcome to zero medels (by a large margin) on most time trials.
And people blindly excuse this gross imbalance. Typical. This game has come far, and it's nice to see, but some fundamental things need to be addressed. A racing game that does not handle or feel well is just pointless.
EDIT: On average, the tracks are too narrow. Considering the proportion between overall handling and especially speed and acceleration, the tracks are too narrow.
I'm pretty sure gold and plat are attainable with some more practice.
And in Breeze tier I got golds in time trials without the start boost or afterburner. Plat was easy once I found out those exist in the game.
I haven't tried the next tiers yet, so no idea what are those gonna be like.
Funny, I have the exact opposite feelings - this one feels right, and RedOut controls make no sense to me at all even after 3 hours of playing.
Then again, my favourite AG handling model is in WipEout Pure.
Redout is much better in this regard, because you always get at least some money/experience, even if you finish low, and you can also repeat tracks for extra money/experience. So you are never blocked from progress though it will take much longer if you can't finish well.
This is interesting reverse scenario, on strategic games forum I might be complaining "impossible is too easy" and lot of other players asking for even easier difficulty :-). Just shows that it is best if the game can somehow tailor for both audiences if possible - even something like chess we have players from total beginners to grandmasters and then invincible AI's - despite this game can be interesting on all difficulty levels.
Leave plat times untouched for the die-hards who feel the game belongs to them.
Modify bronze and silver times for those who are possibly new to the game, or can't invest as much time.
Gold times, adjust as the gateway drug into plat level play. ;P
wipeout was designed to be challeging to any player, not giving any quarter if you make mistakes but providing a fun and enjoyable experience when you start to improve yourself
edit: sorry for the necro btw
Challenging is one thing, being impossible (for many) is another. For example I'm quite strong chess player and like to play strong opponents, but against grandmasters I simply have no chance and never will. "Git gud" can only get you so far and is very subjective. What is challenging for one is impossible (or piece of cake) for another.
Anyway for Wipeout clones I switched to Redout as it is overall better experience and offers better progression curve. It never blocks me from advancing further though it takes longer if I don't perform well.
is it impossible though?
if you didnt have any replacement for a Wipeout clone, you would just play the older games or not even bother to do so and that is fine
implying that this difficulty is impossible is just not right
For me, once the 6th (I think, maybe it was 5th) championship was reached, yes, it became pretty much impossible. I tried quite a few times, but even if I improved I was not even close. And it blocks the progress completely as I can't get any more points.
The game itself is still good, especially in VR. I don't mind purchasing it but it only lasted me several hours before all I could do is custom races (or repeat the impossible championship challenges).
