Rec Room

Rec Room

Buying a laptop with GTX 1050 Ti, should I expect It may work?
It doesn't really say anything about VR but I heard Oculus minimum requirement reduced to GTX 1050 Ti.
I guess I'll see if oculus app give me a greenlight but if it does, would this game be playable with a 1050 Ti? I was considering the other option with a GTX 1070, but it's 17 inch, too heavy, too bulky and far too expensive.

You will be more than good to go. Rec Room is an amazing experience; full of great people, awesome/on the ball developers, and it's free! Welcome to VR.

Also, if you haven't purchased yet, definitely go for the Vive.

Rift or vive will be good on low settings.

But vive requires gtx 1060 as minimum?

Vive requires a gtx 970 minimum and so does Rec Room, so it will work. (Google Vive graphics requrements/scroll down on Rec Room's store page). However, the longer VR is around, the graphics quality is only going to get better so you may want to go with the bulkier 1070. It will be worth it.

I'ld if I could, even the one with a 1050 Ti kinda exceeds my budget but there's no other proper design and it's the lightest option which is vital to me since I'm going to college and most likely use it in public frequently so 17 inch one would be too bulky to use and I want it to be as light as possible while giving me sufficient performance. I'm sure the VR will mature and it will be something worth it, but right now it's not in a state that I'ld want to spend a fortune because that's what it costs in my country sadly..

BTW, I could be wrong but GTX 1050 Ti equals to 960 not 970 and in that case I'm pretty sure, It'll not be enough for Vive.

I played Rec Room just fine before I upgraded to a "VR capable" machine.
I was using a GTX 670, which is way below spec for VR, but Rec Room ran just fine.

If the higher spec machine exeeds your budget, and you really don't want the 17 inch screen (which sort of makes it pointless to buy a laptop), go for the 1050model.

I think it's better to get new cheaper hardware often, instead of buying expensive "future proof" hardware rarely. So perhaps you'll be able to play most VR titles at the moment, and then sooner upgrade to a (perhaps stationary) powerfull machine.

And forget about the Occulus. You'll want to get the Vive.

i have a gtx 960 and a amd fx 8350 eight core and i have no problem playing vr atleast right now i bought an oculus rift and i think the rift is amazing i dont think its worth buying the vive the oculus is enought and the roomscale vr with oculus is great for smaller rooms so i dont think the vive is worth buying over the oculus it cost 300 $ less then the vive so.. youre decision

Don't forget to add up the costs of touch controllers and the extra base station of the oculus (which you will definitely want) before you think you're getting a deal over the vive. A lot of players in Rec Room have problems only using one base station. When all is said and done they are basically the same price. I am VERY glad I got the vive. Most Rec Room players have the vive.

It's exactly how I think!

But min requirements for Vive doesn't include GTX 1050 Ti like Oculus does, I'm not sure if It'll be enough for Vive.

I can't speak as to whether your 1050Ti will be able to provide a decent framerate for VR, but either HMD will provide a decent VR experience (I have a Vive, a buddy has the Rift - they're both fine). Just make sure you have enough USB ports if you get the Rift - each sensor requires a USB port. The Rift with Touch is about $200 less than the Vive ($150 with the current sale) - if you're on a tight budget or worried about minimum requirements, the Rift is probably the better choice for you. If you do get the Rift, make you sure you get it with Touch - don't just get the HMD or you'll be missing out on one of the reasons why current VR so immersive.

Good luck with whatever choice you make :)

I am using a GTX 760 which is basically the same card (Mine is overclocked :) ) and the game runs great (at least what I played of it.

Yep, using a 770 and it runs fine for what it is. Some stutters here and there, but nothing major.
