Yep! Private Quest rooms function just the same as public ones with one exception: You cannot do a daily challenge in a private room. You'll still get the same gold & rewards for completing the Quest in a private room as you would in a public one.
Edit for an explanation of how gold works in the Pirate Quest:
Gold is shared among the entire party, no matter who picks it up. If you leave the Quest without beating it you'll lose the gold that you accrued during that run, though.
If your party wipes, the gold you have will be in a pile where you died. If you can get back to that point in the Quest without a party wipe, you can recover all of it.
If you quit your current session of Rec Room, the pile of gold will be gone. If you wipe before recovering the pile of gold, a new pile of 'wipe gold' will appear & the old one will be lost forever.
Isle of Lost Skulls (Pirate Quest) does get 'easier' once you learn it but the gold recovery system just adds to the comparison.
