Cheating in paintball?
Today I got shot over and over by one user, when the paintballs had barely even begun to move. The guy would appear, shoot, and I would die while his first shot was in flight. In some cases, I died without seeing the shot at all. In another case, the guy took two shots, both went wide, and I still died.

I have been playing paintball long enough (86 hours) and have seen an occasional lag issue, but this was something else. Is there some new cheat available, or can I have been seriously lagged or something?

Incidently, this was the first game in over a week where I didnt get disconnected due to an error 104x

Unfortunately I usually have lag in my sessions due my poor 3mb DSL connection and what you're describing is my daily life:

- I can shoot a guy (and see the paint decal on his head) and see him teleport twice before the "hit" message appears, some seconds later.

- I can be hit by the enemy and later see how he starts to shoot at me with the regular gun.

- I cannot dodge any shot using roomscale.

- I cannot escape from a grenade, even if I teleport far far away.

- I have the game "paused" for a couple of seconds and later the animation resumes in "fast-forward mode": Enemies doing 3 teleport in a row and paint bullets being fired like a machinegun.

So yes, I think you had a lag peak :steammocking:

Sounds like it... additionally our servers are currently based in North America, we are researching options for getting better coverage for other regions.

I'm playing in Spain, and it works great. In any case it's not the mb per second, it's the ping. The lower the ping the faster the shooting.

I really hate it when people with ♥♥♥♥ connections try and do multiplayer shooter games. 9 times out of 10 at least I can rally the server on whatever game it is to kick the lagger. I want to kick them because it causes issues for everyone else as they jitter a lot and dont die when you hit them until several seconds after, at which point they have shot you.

Oh okay, this is why I saw a kick request, I just thought the players were being mean.. there was no message saying why they wanted to kick him..

I've seen 4 kick requests now. One was for a very abusive player, which did not work, he remained in the game for some reason. The other three kicks were to kick out a good player who was winning.

Sorry to hear that. I love multiplayer games and I'm spending most of my Vive time in RecRoom. Sometimes I have lag issues during days. Must I be banned because your gameplay is not perfectly smooth?

Lag can definitely break the game. I've been unable to deal effectively with very laggy players. Almost every single encounter will end with a draw because they get a shot in on you two seconds after you hit them. Sometimes, you won't even see them coming at all, on their screeen they've teleported into your area and shot at you 10 times already. On your screen, they suddenly shoot into view and you're then hit with not just one pellet, but a hail of pellets.

To be fair, I have been laggy too, some programs in the background decided to download a bunch of updates. But last time people told me I was lagging, I apologized, exited VR, closed EVERYTHING but Steam and then rejoined. Problem solved.

Yes. I am a great player, example: I am very sick atm and have one controller, and on paintball I still got 36/6. I HATE IT SO MUCH when laggy people get on because it constantly ♥♥♥♥♥ with me, I shoot them and because they are laggy it doesn't register right away and they promptly shoot me and its so annyoing to be killed by laggers.

I'm not saying anyone should be banned. I'm just venting. A bit of lag is sometimes unavoidable, at least for some players. I sympathize with them, but it's still annoying when it happens.

Had a guy tonight (can give name to developer if required) who was teleporting very short distances but super fast. Everyone asked why and he said "he had levelled up prestige". ;) I'm guessing that's a lie and he had either found an in game way to do this or an external way but seemed like a cheat to me! ;)
gribbly Jan 17, 2017 @ 7:22pm
Hmm that's interesting. Was this player able to shoot? Or was he maybe a spectator?
Kiwachan Jan 18, 2017 @ 1:41am
Maybe there are some laggy players that likes to mess around with bad purposes. I also hate that.

But having lag is not a cheat or a big advantage over non-lag players. I hate having lag and it feels like I'm missing most part of the gameplay and fun. I hate listening "go home!, fix your internet!, quit the game!". Sometimes I quit the game and try another day, sometimes I change the room. I cannot control or improve my lag and of course I check and turn off every possible upload/download from another application. I'm paying like 60$/m for 3mb DSL and that's the best I can have because technical copper limitations (no fiber or wimax here). No fix is possible atm.

Sometimes the connection is good, sometimes is bad. But I want occasionally to keep playing RecRoom without feeling guilty, just to have a good time, even with my limitations. My apologies for ruining the gameplay to the others, I will switch to other room or game if I'm causing trouble.

@Devs, is it possible to have a ping indicator on watch player list? ...But maybe this causes more kickvotes because this reason :(

Hey Gribbly, I can confirm what Goodman said. I nearly see every match at least one guy teleporting really quick and he wouldn't tell us how he did that.
RIPalot Jan 18, 2017 @ 4:28am
I've noticed players moving faster then myself but after playing some more games i noticed they are constantly on the move. Most players tend to stop for a few seconds to look around before trying to move again. There is a built in delay limiting movement speed but in the quarry level this is minimal. Finding the right rhythm could give you a speed advantage.

Maybe it would come in handy if we could notify the devs with timings, maps and player names so they can check for out of the ordinary behaviour. An option to flag a player as suspect could maybe enable some extra logging in the backend to see what is actually causing this.

Lag could indeed be the reason for most of the strange behaviour.
