Having technical issues? Look here!
How do I change my in-game name?
You can change your display name on your profile page[recroom.azurewebsites.net].

Failed to connect to RecNet! What is that?
See this blog post[www.againstgrav.com]

My game won't start. What do I do?
If your game is crashing before you even get to the start screen, it's likely your installation is corrupted. You can try these steps to get it working again:
  1. Verify your game cache. Right-click Rec Room in your Library, go to the Local Files tab, and click "Verify Integrity of Game Cache" This should hopefully fix your issue.
  2. Reinstall. In the Local Files tab, click "Delete Local Game Content." Once the content has been deleted, reinstall Rec Room.
  3. Check that your video drivers are up-to-date.

Why do I keep getting Error 1040s / kicked for disconnect?
We've done some investigation into this, and it looks like the Vive can actually cause interference on the 2.4GHz WiFi spectrum, which can cause connection dropouts. We're looking into ways to deal with this if we can, but in the meantime, we recommend trying the following:
  1. Move to a different 2.4GHz WiFi channel (Consult your router instructions)
  2. Move to 5GHz WiFi if possible (again, consult your router's instructions)
  3. Use an ethernet cable instead (this is the most reliable fix)
We actually suffer from this in the office, so you're not alone!

It's also possible (from at least one user report) that Anti-Virus software can wreak havoc with our network if it's strict enough. It's worth trying flagging Rec Room as allowed if you're seeing this issue.

Why does my game crash when I try to leave my Dorm Room?
Some players have been experiencing a crash when they leave the Dorm Room.
If you're getting this, here's a workaround to try that should fix the issue:
  1. Start Rec Room
  2. Don't leave the Dorm Room
  3. Open the menu (press the Menu button)
  4. Go to Settings-->Advanced
  5. Make sure the "Enable Video Cameras" box is unchecked
  6. Close the menu
Now you can leave the Dorm Room and you shouldn't crash.

None of that worked! What now?
If you're still having issues, we always appreciate bug reports! See the instructions here:

I've tested some more just now, and while alot less consistent (in that earlier case it would work 100% of the time, now maybe 60% at best) it still happens.
I can recreate that 60% by
1] Going to play disc golf with a party
2] Exit or finish that game & return to locker
3] Start another game (either with same party or random new ppl)
In the second game the stroke's count goes a bit haywire when you start catching your own discs, and i got several hole-in-one's from it, even though alot less consistent then before.

Another thing that may be relevant, i usually catch them mid air, this may be some case that 'starts off' the issue? (once you get it going it works even when the disc is on the ground but has no beam yet, but at first that doesnt seem to work)

Its possible that the 100% succesrate can be reached when somebody else in the party starts the disc golf (as i recall that beeing the case the previous time) couldnt get anybody to help me bugtest tho, so just played some discgolf (that i started) with a few random guests.

Long story short, it seems to relate to a combination of party's and multiple disc golf games in a row. Sorry i cant give more to go by, kinda need some help testing to do so.

That's still really useful data to get us started reproducing that here. We'll let you know how it goes. Thanks so much for helping us out!

Suddenly haven't been able to launch the game as of today. It initially told me the executable was missing so I did the verify integrety through Steam. It can't finish updating and fixing the game though, always comes back to the error:

'An error occurred while updating Rec Room (content file locked):

H:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\RecRoom\Recroom_Release.exe'

Tried uninstalling and reinstalling both to the same drive and to a totally different one and got the same result. Upon launch it tries to update or restore a file and can't.

This usually happens when the game didn't close properly and then it tries to update. I'd first make sure that everything related to Rec Room is closed by restarting your PC. Then completely uninstall Rec Room and make sure the folder H:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\RecRoom is completely empty. Then reinstall the game. Let us know if that works.

1040 errors, using an ethernet cable, anti-virus allows rec room entirely.
I had been playing on wifi and then quit, switched to ethernet, and now I can't connect.
I have restarted steam vr, steam, and my computer and still get 1040 errors.

Can you send us your log file? Instructions can be found in the first post.

I got the 1040 error all the time, but that solution in the first post doesn't help me, since I already use cable connection.

I cannot do anything in the game, because I got disconnected after 1/2 mins all the time.. so annoying.. please fix this..

Did you try both computers with the same headset or different ones? This is usually a SteamVR/firmware where Rec Room gets no tracking from your controllers. Is the firmware on your controllers and headset up to date? Are your graphics drivers and SteamVR up to date?

"An error occurred while updating Rec Room (invalid platform)"

(I already uninstalled/rebooted/reinstalled the game 3 times) - Was running yesterday or day before just fine. Ideas?

That's pretty strange. What operating system are you running? Are you trying to install from the game's store page or from your library? If you haven't tried this, cancel the installation, then go to your Library, and install it from there (right click on Rec Room -> Install game...)

win10, very recent release (updates weekly). mind contacting me about it?
Rogue Jedi May 15, 2017 @ 6:42pm
@VotaVader,

I'm also getting this error. I'm on the Insider Fast ring, so I have the first builds of the Fall Creators Update (currently on build 16193). I'd already had the game installed previously and it had been working.
Tzirel May 15, 2017 @ 10:18pm
I have multiple boxes on 16193 doing the same thing - this is why I contacted last week. There's clearly a version or api check somewhere (possibly shifted string comparison) failing.

I'm getting the file locked error after updating. I've rebooted, uninstalled, cleared cache, repaired the library file and the whole steam troubleshoot page. i even unistalled steam (58 games included) reinstalled Steam, steamVR, and Recroom.. update failed. locked file :(
dont know if this is an issue with Steam or Recroom but figured i would cover all bases and get feedback from everyone ;)

I really love everything you guys are doing :)
