My game won't start. What do I do?
If your game is crashing before you even get to the start screen, it's likely your installation is corrupted. You can try these steps to get it working again:
  1. Verify your game cache. Right-click Rec Room in your Library, go to the Local Files tab, and click "Verify Integrity of Game Cache" This should hopefully fix your issue.
  2. Reinstall. In the Local Files tab, click "Delete Local Game Content." Once the content has been deleted, reinstall Rec Room.
  3. Check that your video drivers are up-to-date.

Why do I keep getting Error 1040s / kicked for disconnect?
We've done some investigation into this, and it looks like the Vive can actually cause interference on the 2.4GHz WiFi spectrum, which can cause connection dropouts. We're looking into ways to deal with this if we can, but in the meantime, we recommend trying the following:
  1. Move to a different 2.4GHz WiFi channel (Consult your router instructions)
  2. Move to 5GHz WiFi if possible (again, consult your router's instructions)
  3. Use an ethernet cable instead (this is the most reliable fix)
We actually suffer from this in the office, so you're not alone!

It's also possible (from at least one user report) that Anti-Virus software can wreak havoc with our network if it's strict enough. It's worth trying flagging Rec Room as allowed if you're seeing this issue.

Why does my game crash when I try to leave my Dorm Room?
Some players have been experiencing a crash when they leave the Dorm Room.
If you're getting this, here's a workaround to try that should fix the issue:
  1. Start Rec Room
  2. Don't leave the Dorm Room
  3. Open the menu (press the Menu button)
  4. Go to Settings-->Advanced
  5. Make sure the "Enable Video Cameras" box is unchecked
  6. Close the menu
Now you can leave the Dorm Room and you shouldn't crash.

None of that worked! What now?

I am so bummed out right now; Rec Room has been my reliable go-to for unwinding after a long day at work since the game was released, and all of the sudden today, I'm getting dropped every five minutes! Nothing has changed on my end, so what did you guys do on your end and can you undo it as soon as humanly possible?!

Hi Falcor5000. So sorry you're having this new problem. By "getting dropped" do you mean you get a timeout and are transported back to your Dorm Room or is the game crashing to your desktop? In any case, could you send us your log file (https://www.againstgrav.com/blog/2016/11/23/send-us-your-feedback) when you get dropped? It'll help us out a lot when trying to figure out the problem.

Thanks for getting back to me. The problem I am having would be the "timeout", as you describe it: I seem to freeze in the middle of paintball games several times, until finally I am transported back to the dorm room. Upon re-entry in the dorm room, I am surrounded by a green sphere, and there is a buzzing noise. Then, when I look at my watch, the display says that my connection was lost. I'm not sure what you mean by "log file", but if you would be so kind as to provide me some instruction on how to get that info to you, I'd be glad to send it.

I opted out of the SteamVR beta, on account of a new UI feature that seemed to be causing timing issues in Rec Room and other games as well. This seems to have corrected the trouble in other games; however, I'm still being timed-out in Rec Room. The number of timeouts today were much less than yesterday, but considering I'd never experienced a timeout prior to this week, Rec Room remains, IMHO, a ruined masterpiece.

Any reason why we wouldn't recieve the boxes for promotional items like the class of 2016 stuff? I'm pretty sure I registered on the 29th.

KänguruGuru, we verified that a couple of people had signed up right around midnight on December 31st, 2016 in their local time, and had been cut off from getting the 2016 item because we're using UTC time. Seeing how this can be frustrating, we added a grace period to include all midnight times for Jan 1st around the globe, so you should have gotten the item now. Thanks for pointing this out to us!

Please can you assist? I've just loaded up the vive again and when I run rec room online paintball matches my CPU jumps to 96% load, I start to lose frames after 30 seconds or so, then the entire play world spins about 20 degress the the right, then the whole screen goes light blue. My headset then loses tracking and has to be restarted. This is only an issue in rec room that never used to happen when I played before christmas. My CPU is an i7 6700k and GPU is a GTX 970.

Wow, that is a super weird and specific bug! Does the exact same thing happen every time you try to play Paintball? Are you getting any error messages from SteamVR? Here's an issue I've been having lately. The games performance seems to drop after a while.
This has been happening to a lot lately. For a long time actually. Basically, the game is buttery smooth the first hour or so, sometimes a bit less, sometimes longer. But after this time, my headset drops into reprojection and my hands/guns in-game get really laggy. This really does mess a fair bit with my aim in paintball and other games, but I usually just power through it when I can't restart the game mid-game. After the restart, it's smooth again for a while.

I have the following specs:
Intel Core i5-6600 3.3ghz, Skylake
16GB RAM
256gb SSD, 1TB HDD
Nvidia GTX1080

It should not lag.

Yes, you should definitely be fine. Could you monitor the amount of resources the game is using at the beginning of your session and then when it starts to get laggy? Check CPU, RAM, and HDD usage. Also, could you send us your log file for one of those long sessions? That would be awesome, and thanks for letting us know!

No idea if this is about the game update or the Vive software update of today.

The "You need a VR headset to play" message shows up whenever launching Rec Room. Restarted twice and launched from the VR interface and from the outside of it to no avail. Verified caché and usual troubleshooting steps. Nothing.

I can still play the rest of the games without a problem.

Clues? Halp.
