It's already a purely aesthetic feature, so what is there to balance?
I think the best way to put an item recycler in is to add a shop and currency system like suggested in this post http://steamcommunity.com/app/471710/discussions/0/135512133546030824/
Now that I think about it, you are right. My initial idea is a little overpowered. If any item can be used to give you a filter on your next drop, you'll always get rid of an item unless it's specifically what you want.
Instead, it might be simpler just to do a triple cost redo. If you have three pieces you don't like, then getting rid of them will automatically give you a new random drop right there. It's still random, so you might just end up with a new unwanted item, and there will be a limit to how often you can keep rerolling, but it at least offers the opportunity to shoot for something you want.
I saw that post. My main concern with that is that the game will become too market/grind oriented. Strategy guides stop getting made for how to play the game well, and get made about how to get the fastest drops and play the stock market.
Another thing you could say is if more people start grinding for coins it will be less social. I disagree because if the devs add some sort of grouping system, like school teams or something like that, where people can team up together and compete with other teams it will become even more social. Even if teams aren't added, the game will still be a social game. People will still make friends and spend time in the lobby messing around. In a normal game a lobby is usually a boring area with a couple things just as a buffer before you choose your gamemode or to meet some people to group up with. In VR the lobby is an amazing area to have fun messing around with friends, playing small games that don't warrent a full game lobby, and just relaxing a little bit to take a break from the intense full gamemodes.
P.S. I love how we are discussing all this on a thread about an item recycler. ;)
So do we. Great feedback folks! We're reading it :]
