Rec Room

Rec Room

Error 1040 + can't hear anyone
Okay so these two issues are the most annoying ones by far. Am I the only one experiencing them? So what happens is that there seems to be a pretty big chance that I end up getting a 1040 connection error when I try to move between rooms. Sometimes it gets particularely bad and I literally have to try to connect like 10 times before I actually get a connection.

What's worse even when I do get a connection there also seems to be a pretty decent chance that everyone will be muted for me. They can hear me, but I cannot hear them. So in that case I need to try and reconnect to a game yet again.

What could be causing this? Is it a widespread issue?

Interesting. 1040 is generally the error we see when a connection is spotty (particularly on WiFi, see here). It's possible you ran into a ripple effect from the outage we had over the weekend, which would effect both the connection, and our voice chat stuff.

Let us know if you keep seeing it.

I've actually had this problem for months. Sometimes it's better and sometimes it gets really bad. I'm on a wired connection @ 50 Mbit/s down and 4 Mbit/s up. Should be stable, because once I do get a connection I never get dropouts or anything like that.

I just set the Rec Room Release exe in the steamapps folder to highly trusted on Zone Alarm, but I don't think that's it since even if I use game mode it still happens.

There is something seriously wrong with your "voice chat stuff" and you need to fix it, because this has got to be one of the most frustrating things I've ever encountered. There is like a 50% chance that I cannot hear anyone when I connect to a game. The really annoying thing about it is that I can't even know for sure if everyone is muted for me or if they are just not talking.

Okay so it looks like completely disabling ZoneAlarm makes this stop. It's weird though since ZoneAlarm should be set up with it's default settings plus every Steam, SteamVR and RecRoom exe is set to highly trusted and all options to allow, but it still messes with it.

I've had trouble connecting to Onward in the past too so it might be an issue with ZoneAlarm and Steam or SteamVR in general.

Still though thought I'd let you dev's know that there is a possibility that you could get connected to a game while not getting connected to the voice chat fully and that there is no way to easily figure out when it has happened.

Sorry if I came off a little agressive, but I really love this game so it makes me sad when I cant play it, lol.
