yes, it is more or less a one man project. I was responsible for the design, the art and the programming. Only the music is made by others. A game like this takes half a year for the first version ( that was released on itch.io). But i made many improvements. First for Steam after it was greenlit and then for the DX version. So the development time was now more than a year now. But i was also a computer science student at the time.
Actually, i wouldnt recommend to develop games alone, i just do it because i dont find someone who as passionate as I am aboute these type of games. The game devs around me develop games that i would never play, casual ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ect. When you have a team it helps to protect your metal health. Humans are social animals - even artists, and the best advice that i can give you is to have a real (not digital) social network, so either friends or a team that helps you with the game. A girlfriend is also not bad. But: Women want 100% dedication and your game wants also 100% dedication. Sometimes it is hard to find the right balance.
It seems like you are working in your first project. So you should aim to release it on itch.io. With the first games you dont make money, they are just for learning purpose. The first game is not about the quality, just get it done. Dont waste too much time in polishing. You will become better with each game und when you are good, you can think about how you can make money with your craftsmanship.
You can leave a link of your game in this discussion. When it is a shmup/ arcade game i think many 1917 players will be interested.
haha, really cool man, im too a one man army doing this game... basically same reason as you, didnt found anyone passionate as me to work on this game (or at least with free time anyway).
This is my first game with an "actual gameplay", since i made some Quiz games before... but nothing with Unity, but did some work with C# already.
but i think im going full on this, i still have my daily work, but i really want to make a living developing games, my dream for a long time.
And i didnt thought about that trip you did, going through itch.io first, im thinking about doing this too now.
Well, i never showed my game to anyone outside my closest friends. Kinda nervous to show to someone else hahaha! I even worked past night on my language files to put the game in english (since im from Brazil and my game was all in portuguese).
Really hope you like it, and of course, like to hear your opinion (or anyone else opinion who might be reading this too).

Actually, i have never played a shooter with a shop system, so i didnt get it at all. I am more the R Type, Ikaruga, Under Defeat guy, with normal power ups and memorization.
You should definetly put the game on itch.io. First as a demo. You can do it now, the game is good enough to show it to a wider audience. You can also ask some players at the shmup.system11 forum for playtesting, but they will be more harsh:

Your game made a good first impression to me. You are on a good way. Try to get the shooting basics right and then go to you next project. This shooter will be a really good first game were you can be proud of.
im being developing this game for 5 months now, im working to get a demo done, and i will do just that, i gonna put it in itch.io to receive some feedback, and im cheking right now the shmup.system11.
its been a real challenge to make "undestandable" that shop mechanic in my game, because there is a lot there... im thinking some little and "fun" tutorial explaning that, will do the job...
the slow bullets... well... thats actually the main idea for the game, for you not to be too overpowered in the beginning and getting stronger and "awesomer" as you buy new upgrades in the shop. Yeah its gonna be hard to tinker that, to make players understand the mechanic, or even enjoy it. I will work hard on this.
really thx for the tips man, it will be really useful, i gonna work on finishing a full-demo for receiving some feedback and work on it! thx!
so its been a wild trip for me i guess...
but guess what? i finished my game! it will release on march 7 here on STEAM! (but the game is pretty much done already).
you helped me with some cool tips, and i really treasure that kind of thing! so i want to give you a steam key of my game!
is there an email to contact you so i can give you the code?
(and i noticed just now, ITS EXACTLY A YEAR AGO FROM THE LAST POST! HAHAHA!)
