Get a mod.

get the retrofit mod then start a multiplayer hotseat campaign as england by yourself.
http://www.twcenter.net/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=1581

then open the dev console using the tilde key looks like "~" then type "control timurids" press enter then type "control england". now you just have to wait until the timurids spawn. you can also do this for the mongols.

saving and then reloading as the timurids messes up your campaign and I'm not sure how to get around it

timurids spawn around 120-160 turns in so you'll have to be patient or do something else while you wait. however the mongols spawn only 50-70 turns in so you'll be able to play as them alot faster

is there a way to play as the mongols without going to other websites and ruining the game?

what? what do you mean "ruining the game"?
retrofit does not replace any files you simply extract the mod's folder to the "mods" folder in your game's directory.

as I told you, if you want to play as the mongols like they are in medieval 2 you have to install that mod, start a hotseat campaign by yourself open the dev console, type "control mongols" and then "control england" and wait

retrofit doesnt even make changes to the game, it's the base game with all the features the kingdoms expansion has

o I see, do the kingdoms campaigns work on your PC? did the installer not work or the mod itself?

alright, are you using a batch file to launch the mod or a shortcut?

I don't think batch files work on mac, I haven't used mac either so is there shortcuts on mac, if so, make a shortcut of the game's exe and then go into the short cut's properties and paste the contents of the batch file without the "cd ...\..." line

I don't think so!

I dont know about timurids but you can play as the mongols by using the Kingdoms Grand Campaign mod.

You can play as the Timurids in the Custom Campaign Mod 2.
It's a very roundabout procedure to do it in vanilla, but it is possible. It requires an off-steam installation of medieval 2 with hotseat unlocked (timurids placed in the playable factions category alongside something like england) and console enabled.

You can start as england, put the command "control england" in, and assuming you have the timurids selected, the game will play out for a long time until the timurids spawn. Then you'll get the armies of the timurids. Once you get them, save and stick the save into your steam save folder.

A game in that mode isn't the most reliable by any means, though. You don't have much army spawn control and I don't think you will see any of the battles that are happening after clicking end turn, making nasty surprises much more likely...

Since I have a mac labtop I can't play kingdoms grand campaign mod. I've tried installing custom campaign mod 2, but i install patch 1.05 on my macbook pro. So if anyone has a way of doing so please let me know bc its stressing me out. I use to play it on my pc at home, however, i live at college right now so I don't have that time to do so.
i am here to help, i have played as the timurids many times without using mods. So first you go into steamapps and into medieval 2 files. You go into data then world then maps then campaign and finally into imperial campaign. Once youre in it there is a file called descr_strat click on it and it should show you a list of playable, unlockable, and unplayable factions. You take the timurids and put them in playable and erase them from unplayable. After that you go into campaign as the timurids and this video below will show you the rest of the steps https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D5Dsk0E1k68&t=0s
Now this will take until turn 140-149 and even though it might be time taking the timurids are a hell of a fun campaign!
