Ill give it a go - Only some of my castles will be citadels by that time however given that it is turn 59 now and they could be at my door by turn 80 or turn 100 if they are REALLy slow.
another issue is that my infantry or byzantine infantry is not great...dismounted lancers don't have the good morale stat and don't have bonus against cav like dismounted spahi lancers do
I think ill need a line of castle filled with tresbyond archers, dismounted lancers, and maybe some catapults
also they like to move in a group. if an army is separated from the pack it's an easy target. but the biggest priority is to kill their generals.
That said, once the Mongols settle, dont let them settle in or they have all kinds of more free stacks they can recruit.
Killing generals is the ONLY way to stop the Mongols. The same goes with the Timurids next
No, wait for them to come to you. Fight them in sieges. Byz roster kinda sucks overall in my opinion, so your best bet is to spam utterly cheap Spear Militia. Get a good general and they won't rout.
Byz has no normal access to stakes (though Mercenary Longbowmen by Milan can plant stakes - unsure of whether the Byz can hire them though), so you'll have to abuse the heck out of your arrow towers and just stuff fifteen units of spear militia by the gate. Put a couple on the walls to stop their siege towers.
ALSO, it is vitally important that if you retreat to the plaza for whatever reason (probably too many holes in walls), if you're in a Castle abuse the heck out of the towers in the plaza. They're there only in Castle-line settlements and at the back, but free arrows at a time when things are looking bleak is not to be sniffed at. (Just move your units back as close to the towers as you can get them - the towers will start auto-firing).
It's an easy ride once you've crushed the main force.
If I remember correctly, they also spawn in different parts of the map.
I think the three spawn points are Baghdad Yeveron, and Sarkel - I think they all spawn in the same area once they have chosen their entry point tho im not sure.
THey're actually easier to kill once settled then when they are in a horde because they're no longer moving around as one big group.
2 waves for both the Mongols and Timurids.
They can spawn in 4 regions; Baghdad, Yerevan, Transoxasia (above the caspian sea) and Tbilisi.
Tbilisi and Bagdhad have Antioch as target.
above Caspian Sea and Yerevan have Kiev as target.
Mosul and Sarkel ? are usually citadels they attack so if you can kill 'm there you can weaken them considerably.
