Pyro's achilles heel
I'm trying to fine tune my strategies with a pyro. I pick him at wave 1. However, I do not know how to reliably handle wave 4 when enemy sends a counter against me. Even if I see it coming and save up income for best unit I have, sending a hermit on a wave 4 completely wrecks this build.

Is there a reliable way to deal with it? I mean, without specific units since I can't control RNG. What I should do against a player who tries to counter me with hermit on a wave 4, 7, etc.

You don't need specific units. If you stay 4 workers, you can clear Hermit on wave 4 with any units. If you want to go to 5 workers, you need some natural or swift tank or off-tank. Buzz/Consort, Golden Buckler, or Warg is best. Honeyflower, Hardened Mudman, Devilfish, are Pack Rats can work too.

Put your tank two squares behind the Pyro. This makes it so that Pyro tanks the Hermit, and you should clear the wave. If you only leak the Hermit, it's still good for you.

Thank you, it had helped me to overcome this issue. Previously I tried Yozora, but I placed her two squares behind Pyro and this resulted in me leaking just a Hermit. Now I had placed Sea serpent and Devilfish for wave 4. I had a dominant run in that game. Much thanks to a good start. However, enemy did not sent a Hermit, but a Brute and a Turtle. Is this combination worse for me? Could I had managed to not leak this wave against just a Hermit if I had built 1 worker extra?

I also noticed that 4 workers are not quite enough to send a Hermit for wave 4. I will need to take a look at just how reliably I can pump out 5 workers at the start without leaking in early game.

I still struggle passing wave 10 with Pyro. I just don't get enough fighter value (+100) for wave 10. Even if I have swift tanks and equivalent recommended value, boss just goes right through. How many workers pyro build should have at wave 10?

The real question is: Do you really need to clear the entire wave? Unless you leak hard the boss will be done in one or two hits by your king. Killing your economy to hold what will be about 50 gold for the enemy is not worth it imho.

Isn't boss 150 gold? That seems as pretty big thing to miss.

You don't miss the entire reward. The amount of gold you get is based on the missing HP of the boss. Try letting wave 10 leak, as soon as he leaves your lane you will see the gold you got from the boss (most times it will be around 130).

As Hal mentioned, 125 out of 150 bounty from the wave 10 boss Granddaddy is based on how much damage you deal to it. The other 25 is based on whether or not you kill it. This partial bounty system only applies to waves 10 and 20.

It's sort of a hidden mechanic, and we'd like to communicate it better in the future.
