Glad to hear the game looks better to you.
We plan to try 1v1 as a featured game mode to see if players like it.
Additionally, once we full release the game this year, matchmaking will become better, so you will more consistently match with teammates who are close to your skill level. That should reduce some of the frustration of playing 2v2.
I'm excited to try the 1v1 featured mode myself, too.

Is 1v1 a thing? I want to play this with a friend, we use to play in sc2, no point for us in 2v2 or play with IA
The quality of teammates in random games has never been great, and lately feels worse than ever.
Seconded, thirded, infinitum
What if we make it a 8 way freey for all
and each round your units get sent to the player to your right. Each sending their units to the next player. Meaning no one would fight the same person, or be head to head, until everyone is eliminated, The way you win is by being the last one to survive.
Everyone has their own king with their own life points and upgrades.
As you buy units, your field gets built like normal, but the same units get sentto you right, and you recieve the units from your left. Making it so you have to choose between a good offense or a good defense. mercenaries are still playable but dont stay on your field, but can help you elimnate a pesky player with a strong hand. However they are more expensive.
This game mode would be an awesome change of pace, and would even help with balancing.
i'd love to see something like this implemented in the near future!
(BTW I KNOW This is basically rippiing off of Pokemon Showdown from Warcraft III
BUT id love to see it here!)
It could be time limited EVERY day during prime time to not affect low traffic queue times.
Many people don´t marry a game, so a 1v1 mode needs to be tested for month to see if people coming back get the memo.
