...said no one ever.
It's a niche genre. Few people are looking for beat em ups on Steam, so you're depending on other people to talk about it.
2D is less popular than 3D.
It's competing with thousands of other games. It's a very saturated market.
Other than that, I'm not sure. The game has one of the easiest learning curves, offers replayability because it has bronze/silver/gold medals, and quality everywhere you look. The only thing it's missing is tits and boobs.
But the funny thing is that this isn't even your usual beat em up game.
Gameplay-wise? I could compare it to Supergiant Games' Hades because of the rush it gives. It's closer to a hack-n-slash roguelite than it is a beat em up if I'm being honest.
I guess this misrepresentation of its strengths is part of the reason why the marketing was unsuccessful.
The art style really isn't to blame, there's a ton of 2D games out there that are more successful than 3D games, it's out of the question.
I just hope this game gets another chance to get on the map, maybe through a beat em up sale on steam or something.
Now, I'm glad I did. This doesn't play like a beat-em-up game, at all. And it actually plays really well using the keyboard. I haven't played much, yet, but my first impression is good. Campaign mode appears to be quite motivating and there's seems to be a lot of stuff to unlock.
