Village wipes make this game too frustrating to play
Have you ever spent an hour meticulously crafting the perfect sandcastle and then a wave or sibling comes by and knocks it all over in a matter of seconds? That's what it feels like to play Northgard. You spend the better part of an hour getting everyone where they need to be, the buildings in the right sectors, etc. Then a blizzard comes along and makes your entire population 1 hitpoint from death, then another faction or just wolves come through and take out half of your population. It's not fun and as far as I can tell, there aren't many good options to deal with it (yes I know some research mitigates some of it, but there are lots of ways this can happen, the blizzard is just one).

Maybe doubling hitpoints would help so there's more time to deal with stuff? I don't know. I just know that I never feel like completely rebuilding over and over.

if you get the notification a blizzard is coming better prepare for it, if you are deep in the game and have to start the year with all your villagers at low hp, first you got a global 20% production penalty, waiting for new villagers or healing all of them up takes so long.
You are just ♥♥♥♥♥♥. Might as well start over if you are solo playing. (or buy rat clan)

So They are Billions is not a game for you either.

Good to know, thanks.

Its supposed to punish your bad decisions. If you got caught with your pants down - its 100% YOUR fault, and the game punishes you for that. Next time be smarter and the game wont frustrate you.

I was waiting for the first person to say "get gud". That's a stupid argument considering most games punish bad decisions. The problem is that this game punishes you for (checks notepad) existing in a world with snow. When a blizzard hits your food for -30, how exactly am I supposed to prepare for that 5 minutes out? Further, my point is that the punishment sucks all the fun out of the game. As people in here have already said, you may as well start over and hope for better RNG.

So let me get this straight. You want a game that does not punish you in any way for making mistakes, right?

Yup, you nailed it. Good job.

Didnt expect anything else.

I feel bad for the poor casuls who are stuck in their personal hell of bying a game expecting a mobile game experience only to find out that you need to actually work and think to overcome the challenges it presents to you, then uninstall and go complain on the forums about how you misread the game description and wasted money on a game you will never play again.

Congratulations, you have played yourself once more, now onto the next game.

You just keep nailing it! Are you a psychic or something? How did you know I spend every waking moment playing games on my phone?! And you also were smart enough to realize that nothing I'm saying is sarcastic, too! I stand in awe of you, sir!

My guy, I reviewed games for a living years back. I got free games left and right for years. It's also why I can tell that a game doesn't have great design. You keep making guesses and assumptions and you've whiffed on every single one. I've never seen someone be so wrong about me so consistently in such a short amount of time. You truly are a master.

Ah yes, instead of having a counter-argument, go full sarcasm mode. Very professional, I would even say "worthy" of a game reviewer.

Dude, you are one of the most unpleasant people I've talked to (even on the internet) in a long time. I have no desire to "counter" you. The only use you have in my life for the brief window I'm going to interact with you is amusement. And even that is just about done. So with that said, thanks for the chuckles and have a good one.

That one hit me. I have a much greater idea: why not remove blizzard at all, right? :steamsalty:

Funny, I'm a noob at this game and always in camping mode until the bitter end (I only play this game for PVE conquest mode and occasional normal AI match), my playthroughs last for several hours as opposed to "you should win in 30 minutes or less", but never ever did I blame game design when I'm getting ♥♥♥♥♥♥ and screwed over cause random blizzard or rat infestation wipes out my settlement and prevents me from reaching the win objective. Which happens not very often tbh

"git gud" is a bad point when someone asks for help
it is not a bad answer when someone just rants blindly.
somehow, so many people have been able to beat extreme conquests, where having your whole pop get sick WILL mean your death as the enemy is always able to attack you (due to cheating bots... and don't even start that the bots shouldn't cheat, tell me any strategy game, especially RTS, where the bots don't cheat... and check before you submit your suggestions). Somehow, although all the resource drains are bigger on higher difficulties (especially during events), this was still possible. Tell me, how is it the issue of game design if it's obviously possible to handle?
Maybe ask people for tips or don't go on high difficulties. the game doesn't have a great tutorial, i'll agree with that instantly, it will not help you out of many situations with the information you're given, but there's a community for you. Don't scream at the game for being bad, either quietly stop playing it because it's obviously not for you or ask people for help. Many in the community can handle blizzards.

You claim to have a history of game reviewing. You're probably among the people that played roguelikes and complained it's too hard because they're constantly dying, not realising that's part of the genre.
You just complain, while obviously not understanding the game. This game is challenging, it requires you to adapt quickly to new situations. Yes, in some cases the RNG might get you, but in most cases it won't matter. Losing is ok, just maybe think more about what you could've done differently that would've saved you instead of just blaming it on bad design.
You are unpleasant, because you're angry just because you wanted to be angry today. YOU are among the people that make game reviewers infamous. Actually try to play, or go without complaining.

The tutorial is the story mode, it teaches the basics and tells you for example how to deal with a blizzard and trows blizzards at you. Ramping up the difficulty means it gets a lot tougher to deal with it and if you want to get past it learn you will.

I mean, steam reviews are not professional, but i'd expect SOME quality from a reviewer.

More than half the reviews are about politics, one even being "i don't plan to ever play this game, i just heard someone wanted to cancel it so i gave a positive review". This guy doesn't care about games, he cares about him being allowed to REEEEE wherever he wants. So he shall, this is his freedom. I hope he never called others snowflakes, because reading his reviews really shows that he would be projecting.

He's played Civ V for 500+ hours but didn't manage to get more than half the achievements somehow (i'm honestly surprised how this is even possible, half of them happen just by playing). He specifically chose to only play half the leaders. For a favourite game, you really dislike half the content. This is honestly confusing. How much time did you spend in the menu / lobbies?

It is also visible you do have the perseverance to actually play difficult games like elden ring and kingdom come, maybe you should just refrain from difficult strategy games then.
Or you should spend more than 6 hours with a game before complaining the mechanics are too difficult

Hi everyone,

I'm locking this thread as it has gone off topic.

Please don't make any personnal attacks, this isn't the place for that kind of behaviour.
