Are the DLC's essential?
I'm planning to buy this game but I'm torn between choosing the legendary edition or the standard. Are the DLC's worth buying?

no not at all. They're basically unique, different ways to play something you buy later on once you've mastered the basic clans.

The DLC clans are fun alternative ways to play the game.
If you enjoy the game they are definitely worth it.

You can buy the standard edition now on sale now and if you like the game you can buy the dlc clans in a bundle during the next steam sale more than likely

at the moment, all DLCs complete cost the same as the base game alone, but only if you buy both base game and the DLCs at once. (ca. 22 €, that's a special edition. The base game alone costs ca. 11€, the DLCs alone ca. 18€)

I wouldn't wait. There is always the refund-option, if you don't like the game.

No they are definitely not essential. But they do expand your gameplay options quite a bit and make it even more fun to play with some unique mechanics for each clan. If you're not sure, I would suggest you get the base game and try it out. If you like it, you can get the DLC clans later on. Sales come and go, so not to worry too much. There is definitely more then enough for a regular gamer in just base game, to get you to your next sale, when you can get DLC clans, if you like the game.

Bare in mind that you have plenty of Clans in the main game - the legendary editions adds only more Clans to choose from.
Great if you're more of a multiplayer than a single payer
