its not a clone. sure, the name is kinda bad, and it does have a lot of similarities gameplay wise, but to say its a clone? yeah, no.
thats just disrespectful to the amount of effort that the devs put into the game.
for one, the art style is completely different, and imo, outright superior.
the only reeason that it looks similar to northgard model wise, is because thats just how norse architecture and armor was like. Northgard was far from the first to use their depictions.
then theres the gameplay itself. it has some similar mechanics, sure. but its far, far too different to be the same. first off, there are no grid mechanics to the world. theres no building cap, so you can build as much as you want. there are no limitations to where you can build, and you dont need to scout locations to move or attack there. yes, there are fisherman huts, woodcutter huts and etc, but how else are you supposed to get those materials?
thats not even all of the differences, like the combat, the very finite resources of everything, and the fact the the games focus itself is just different.
its a singleplayer city builder and management sim with a pause button, that has multiplayer more similar to civs than northgard.
in all reality, this is a game more like Age of Empires, Star Wars: EaT and Command And Conquer, which all came long, long before Northgard and did very similar things as well.
so, no, Frozenheim really isnt a clone, especially since if it was considered a clone, then Northgard would be considered a clone of Rage of The Vikings and Cultures: Northland, as they both either are viking rts games, or feature a viking clan to select and are vaguely similar in gameplay. Both of which came out 20 or more years ago too.
I like Northgard for its simplicity and relatively short game durations.
Frozenheim has the feel of Northgard, but it is like a zoom in view of what is going on.
I am rather excited about Frozenheim. I may buy it!
northgard:
-big variety, slightly cartoony
-towers are buildings
frozenheim:
-most buildings have a tent-like structure with sloped walls to the ground, also closer to realism
-towers are mountable platforms
basic unit models
northgard:
-simplistic, no neck, shorter
-warriors have a two-handed axe, shield bearer have a sword and shield in their hands
-archers shoot horizontally
frozenheim:
-aimed towards realism; more detailed, have a neck, longer
-the combatants i saw in the trailer often forget to equip their shield, even in combat. all have a one-handed axe
-archers shoot vertically
also, the docks look completely different, the ships are very basic, but look way closer to cultures (northland) than northgard.
i haven't bought the game, i've jsut been on their steam page and i couldn't find any reused assets. northgard unit models are more aimed toward bulkiness, while frozenheim doesn't regard that viking fantasy as much.
also, you claimed earlier the hex building system is similar, now you claim you don't care about gameplay. but just looking at the screenshots it seems more like a "town halls have x range" system than a "every tile is a seperate biome"-style that northgard uses.
also: the world; everything looks different.
unless you tell me the steam page is a lie your claim seems pretty baseless
