2. Relics range from game changers to huge eco boost for just 10 metal. After you upgraded your warriors or and few workers you have no use for metal anyway.
You had to put the relic first in your territory (with 1 free space), then from the relic you can summon the thunderstorm.
Other relics improve knowledge or gold gathering or defence. Then every clan have its own relic that usually boost a trait of that clan. Try some more game and you will understand ;)
Mjolnir can be pretty devastating to an enemy clan if they aren't ready for it, but it is pretty expensive to use and has a long cooldown
The feasting relic halves the feast cost and doubles the duration, pretty useful if you haven't feasted yet and you have a lot of food, you can spam feasts over and over for awhile
The commerce relic boosts your coin income- useful if you are going for trade victory as it buffs all your coin income
Some of the clan specific relics are pretty powerful as well
Like your altar of kings, you want to place it in a spot where it won't easily be taken i.e. not really a good idea to put it on the front line unless it is the defense relic
