Had some issues following release that have since been resolved, but shout me if this isn't the case for you

Hey There!
We actually realized this was not possible after we'd already released annoyingly (Conquest relies on the Steam and GOG friend/invite features, which they obviously don't share) but we're working on a workaround for this issue that we hope to deploy ideally within the next month or so.

Thank you for using my own words to bring about the stunning realisation that I need coffee too function before answering people on here! ;)
I'll keep you updated on this!
James
any news on this topic?
Thanks!
We're looking at what we can do here, but it may be a lengthy process.

You did not design this as a solo game so you know this would be a problem. How do one go about returning this on GOG? My friend just used a code to get it cheaper on GOG but that now turned out to be a complete waste of money.
We sell it on multiple platforms so that people who prefer one particular platform over the other available options are able to play our game regardless of their preference. It's not dissimilar to buying a game on one console instead of the other console options.
Multiplayer cross play is fully supported with the lobby system, unfortunately Conquest does not use this system it uses the Steam invite function. You are still able to play co-op across two GOG accounts and we are working on ways of getting around this so that cross play co-op will eventually be possible too, but like i said, this is an extensive task and not as simple as flicking a switch.
You can inquire about refunds on GOG here - https://support.gog.com/hc/en-us/articles/115000487189-GOG-COM-Money-Back-Guarantee-Policy?product=gog

1 - It IS a solo game as it has a full campaign and AI skirmish modes.
2 - Why do you buy a game on another platform and just expect it to work cross-platform with Steam? If you were that concerned with being able to play with your friend, then both of you should have bought it on the same platform to be sure you could play together. You really come across as entitled and whiny and I'm pleased to see the developer gave a good, patient response.
He apparently has more patience than I do, lol.
Because they said multiplayer would work across different stores so people expected conquest to also work.
Ofc he has, that's part of his job. A community manager that rages at customers wouldn't last long.
