Lacks a bit of polish but still orders of magnitude better than the film.

So, it is a lego game, and it does follow the lego formula. But, its not the best lego game, and I would argue your money better spent elsewhere.

for one thing, there are too many characters. yes, yes, every lego game has a ton of characters, but this one has a LOT. this wouldn't be an issue if there was a quick and easy way to filter through them, based for example, on how important they are to the story, or on what abilities they had, but no. the default layout is alphabetical, and that's the only layout you get. wouldn't be an issue, if not for the number of background characters included. especially frustrating when you're looking for an ability that is particularly rare in the cast.

now, once you find the one you're looking for, its pretty easy to hold on to them, so long as you keep them in the quick selection set. no big. just make sure you don't lose them while traveling from world to world to world and we'll have no issues.

there's also how strictly they stay to story. previous lego star wars titles did too, but the lack of voice acting added a layer of humor to it even when hitting all the story moments, and this game isn't as good at incorperating that. its not horrid, there are legit funny moments, but i feel they struggled a little with this one. this isn't to say no lego game can have voice acting and be good, just that this one struggles in a way that i think adding the restriction may have actually helped.

Of course, that would have been less noticeable if there were fewer cut scenes. there are SO MANY. its not the most enjoyable because of it, to be perfectly honest.

Over all, will you have a good time? i dunno. probably. could you have a better time? yes, no question. for example, Lego DC Super Villians is one that follows the lego formula while still shaking it up enough to feel fresh, and successfully juggles having a HUGE cast, and benifits from having its own story, making the voice work less distracting, working with the game rather then against it.

also, on a purely personal note, starkiller base is way too dark. I don't like looking for collectables with the lights out. the other worlds don't have as much of this issue, but its driving me mad.
