Is it worth playing if I have absolutely zero knowledge about Dungeons & Dragons?
Hey, I know this game takes place in the multiverse of Dungeons & Dragons.
What I want to ask is would I miss out on the rich lore and/or story everyone if I'm absolutely not aware of anything Dungeons & Dragons? Or does the story do a good enough job making sure I won't miss a think regardless of my familiarity with D&D?

Edit: Should I play Baldur's Gate before this?

Technically they overlap, and have a lot in common, but Sigil is not a medieval Europe based fantasy setting. There's very little in Baldur's Gate that will improve your understanding of the story or overall lore of PS:T. General knowledge of philosophy is far more applicable than anything specific to other D&D games.

I think PS:T does a very good job of telling you all you need to know about the world it's set in. You'll find NPCs with long explanations of how the planes work, details about the various races you encounter, and a lot more. I can't think of anything that a player might need to know, lore wise, that isn't explained in the game.

I barely know anything about Dungeons and Dragons (even though I read a few of R.A. Salvatore's books within that universe) but I still enjoyed Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, and Planescape. From what I can tell, this game isn't connected to the others so you should be able to enjoy it without having previous knowledge of it. I WOULD, however, recommend you learn at least the basics of D&D combat and stats so it's a little bit easier.

I played this game years ago when it was in a combo pack at Walmart with Septerra Core. This game was one of my favorite games as a kid, and now that it is on summer sale I am picking it up to play again :)
