Next game after Planescape
I've just replayed Planescape after half a decade or so and am forlorn without it (again). What else have you played that is comparable?

I really liked Never Winter Nights, was the best of them all to me anyways. Not saying others are bad, just that I enjoyed NWNs more.

NWN2: Mask of the Betrayer. There's not a lot that really compares to Planescape though, it's a unique game.

+1 for Neverwinter Nights Enhanced Edition, the game I have put over a thousand hours in playing. There is more or less an infinite number of free adventures which are amazingly good, for free doownload at https://neverwintervault.org/. It is a game i cannot recommend highly enough, and it's only $19.95, coming with a raft of adventures and some very good DLC adventures, along with the ***** games at Neverwinter Vault.

The other game I have "only" played for 9 years is the Dominions series, 3, 4 and now 5. It's one raging monster of a fantasy turn-based strategy game, and it can take years to master. Another game, if it interests you, that is 100% recommended by me. It's not cheap at $39.95, but it is Worth. Every. Penny.

the closest thing to PS:T would be Mask of the Betrayer, although PS:T is a really unique game so you won't find anything like it. But still, MotB would be next on the list in the same vein. After that you're out of games.

Can you play MotB on Steam?

Sadly not. It's the first expansion to Neverwinter Nigths 2. But I would not be suprised if Beamdog has a NW2 Remaster in the oven.

MotB really the nearest thing to PST after that .. maybe Vampire the Maskerade: Bloodlines.

I disliked NWN2; the first adventure was a "find everything" grind. I also, oddly enough, thought the graphics were pretty ugly in the light, and hard to see in the dark.:steammocking::steamfacepalm:

I went right back to NWN:steamhappy:, and stayed there.

Sadly the Main Campain in NWN2 is meh. But MotB is probly the written content in the entire NWN Series.

That makes for another question : -) -- is it possible to play the MotB content without playing the main campaign?

You can skip it. Maybe read a story summary of the original campaign.
It's a sequel and there are mentions of the prior story and recurring characters. But it's not the main part of MotB.

On the other hand if you want to play the NWN2 Main Campaign I can say that the first act is the worst and most boring part of the entire game. It will never go above generic Fantasy stuff but it gets better than the beginning.

I don't remember exactly but I think there are a couple of bug fix and camera fix mods out there.

I see. There are, of course, a passel of modules for NWN2, and, if comes out for Linux from our pals Beamdog, I'll buy it in a trice.

The original NWN campaign is kinid of meh, as well.

You could try Pillars of Eternity, it's a decent isometric RPG. I never finished it though, but I'm the kind of person that can't focus on one thing for long.

Knights of the old Republic 2 has a similar feel, and is really a great game after you install the restoration project (was quite buggy upon release). Its in the star wars universe, but explores its themes in far more depth than the usual good vs. evil stuff...

Shadowrun Returns, Shadowrun: Dragonfall, Shadowrun: Hong Kong -- They're cyberpunk/fantasy adventure with a sort of retro style of gameplay.

The a lot of the same team worked on Torment: Tides of Numenera. I like that game, but I also bought it on sale.

Those are probably the closest to Planescape that I know of.

I would also recommend Dragon Age:Origins. It has more cut scenes and more fighting, but uses a tactical combat set up so you can pause the game and give your party commands. It's a complete fantasy setting and has a more updated gameplay style. I'd also say waiit for a sale on that one, there will probably be one.

Neverwinter Nights EE, is the most game you can buy, in terms of the hundreds of modules available at https://neverwintervault.org, for free, each of which is a complete RPG adventure, and there are series of adventures that tell a big story, or in the same world. There is, now that there are a lot of players who may not even known of its existence. There are big fans of Baldurs Gate, who adore Planescape:Torment, who never played this game. Its system is based on the then-current D&D 3.0 rules, and the system rolls the dice, and sometimes you get a critical success, and sometimes you get a critical failure, and, I might add, either roll on a D20 has an equal chance.

Don't let that deter you. There are different levels of difficulty built in to the settings, and casual players to those who like a challenge. There are character-buidng mods, letting you to become a Level 20 Half-Orc monk, LG. say, or a villain, or a Champion of Torn, or a level 8 sorcerer, or whatever character you would like to play.

Check it out, for $19.95 and maybe back in a Steam salie forge, if that's too rich for your blood. Since the recent release, there are several hosts for playing the game online, which is a huge plus. PVP too, I think.

I have been playng this game since 2002, and it certainly was the most game I had ever paid for that came in a box. In 2008, I said goodbye to tha malware magnet that is Windows and started using Linux, and I was a 100% n00b when I started. It diidn't take me long at all to become used to it {hint).

BioWare, in 2003, released a Linux client, whch every mod and addition supported. In 2008, I drove to BestBuy and got the game, after I had already paid for, for $14.95. I installed it, closely following a step-by-step guide in the BioWare forums. It "just ran," and I have been, seriously, playing this game for 16 years, and installing new mods and testing them out now is divine as it has been for lo these many years.

I'm 70, and there isn't any game that into which I have put so many fun hours.

It's a steal.
