Okay, he's dead because I killed and farmed the entire zone for hours getting exp from constant kills in the mortuary.

Now Emoriq wants me to find out where he went. However no follow up prompt from me saying he's dead. So how do I complete the quest or is it bugged

can you say - next quest? Very good, because thats whats left when you indiscriminately kill npc's. If they are dead the quest dead ends. No ifs ands or buts about it. Do not kill any named npc and you should be ok. Since you are so early just start over, or don't. There is no 100% quest completion thing.
