Wasn't able to select class at char creation?

I wanted to avoid playing a fighter of any kind, as it's usually my default RPG character, so I decided to be a mage. I created a new game and saw no class selection, so just assumed the class would be selected based on stat allocation, so I put everything into wisdom/charisma/int for a more priestly/magey char. However as of level 2 I'm still listed as a fighter on the char screen. I specifically made sure my STR was the minimum of 9.

Did I mess up somewhere or will I be able to choose my class soon?
