Long answer - Yes, its a great game.
I dont like giving opinions on subjective stuff like that. Its in the eye of the beholder. Only you can answer hat.
Combat heavy - Baldurs Gate 1 n 2
Combat medium - NeverWinter Nights 1 or 2
Other options are the Icewind Dale series.
More modern Chronicon, Grim Dawn, Children of Morta
if you looking ADVENTURE GAMES WITHOUT COMBAT AND NON RPG and NON D&D

For more modern games there are the Dragon age games (origins and Inquisition are amazing imo, 2 is also quite good but was a bit rushed), Divinity: Original sins 1 & 2 (1 is quite good, havent played 2 yet but I have heard its way better than the first game). There is also the pillars of eternity games (the first game didnt quite click with me but many ppl like it, havent played the second game).
Theres also some game called Tyrrany (I think), havent played it but the steam reviews are pretty good overall. Same goes for a game called Pathfinder: Kingmaker (or something like that), been thinking of bying this one but my backlog is a bit too large atm so it's gonna have to wait a bit.
Hopefully I didnt forget about something obvious now but the games above I would say is worth checking out :)
My other favourite is Baldur's Gate 2. I think it's pretty much te perfect CRPG and it has aged much better than BG1, which I find a bit dull to play nowadays: too many almost empty areas that you have to explore and traverse. Areas like these don't exist in BG2 and hardly in PST.
When talking about story and epicness I prefer these over dragon age (DA 1 is good, the sequels less so). I like the battle system in Divinity, but the story and especially the characters feel a bit bland and generic when i compare these with Planescape torment.
Icewind dale has the same kind of gameplay as Baldurs gate, but it lacks a good story IMO and especially no interesting party members.
A recent game that I loved storywise is disco elysium. However, this one has no combat.
If youre into combat, play Baldurs gate instead.( Even though imo the story in baldurs gate is better. Planescape is very "figure of speech" oriented. Alot of word play and deeper meanings behind whats going on. If you can play this for the first time and know wtf is actually happening beyond the main plot points then youre insane )
