This would indicate that Negative Totem is a nice trollbait (lol) if you try to use its supposed passive ability, but the "use" from quick bar that might stop shadows works and is the only 100% confirmed function.
I did 2 playthoughs, 1st one I used this, and made shadows much easier to deal with.
2nd play through, I forget to get this item and had to battle shadows.
This device really helps you in the puzzlewell hag map. Plus if you get mazed from L.O.Pain, its helpful to deal with the shadows there also.
