First time playing this, I think I messed up. Should I reset?
I'm still in the mortuary, made a character with 17 int, 18 wis and 13 cha because I've read that maximizes dialogue choices. Was walking through the place, looting things, talking to people/zombies. Everything was fine until I reached the 3rd floor and one of the Dustmen saw me. I tried to talk my way out of the confrontation, but I probably chose the wrong option because I got the option to snap his neck (which I failed) and then I killed him. And now EVERYONE is hostile.

I would prefer to talk to people more to learn about things, get new items, exp and the like. Do I restart? If I do, how do I deal with the Dustmen without making them hostile?

You need to find a disguise. Try exploring a bit more, talking to some of the zombies, etc.

So, restart then? I unfortunately quick saved AFTER killing him, and didn't make any previous hard saves because I'm dumb.

Yeah you probably should tbh. Fighting the dusties isn't really worthwhile.

Another option is to tell the Dustmen you are not lost, then say that you are here to see someone, then say that you are here to see Dhall.

Thank you! Reset, went through it again, outside now. Quick question? I have a bunch of items (like books and pages) that I'm not entirely sure what to do with. Can i store them in random contaners around the world? Or would they disappear at some point?

Also, every once in a while, someone would pick a fight while I'm walking around, but after loading the last quick save, they don't do anything. Is that random?

Hi. Yes you can put them in random general containers & it will not disappear. As to the fights it happens randomly. Yes reloading will yield that result that you described.

Thank you!

I much prefer dialogue/talking myself.

I would recommend:
18 Wisdom
16 Int
13 Dex
10 Charisma

And try to go for a mage spec when you're given the option (walk to the far left and up after leaving the mortuary and you'll find a midwife who can get you started on that track). Mage track will give you the "Friendship" spell that raises your charisma. 13 Dex should allow you to snap the guy's neck, and while there is a different option for a disguise, I prefer this one.

But why?

You get some xp when you do that. After killing the Dustman can use the robes as disguise. There is another option for disguise starting out in the first part.

Well, if there's a bit of xp involved, that explains it. How many extra levels can you get if you snap everyone's neck instead of only talking to them?

Though if you're planning to switch classes, it may be more effective to leave the mortuary, change classes, and then come back and kill everyone.

If you want to play per your types why not? Think I can get 10 extra levels yeah. Don't need to change class to murder everyone.

For me, it's not the XP, it's the walking pace. If you use the Dustman costume, you can still run. If you use the other costume, you have to walk. Very. Very. Slowly.

In terms of killing people vs. not killing people, there are consequences to your actions, so it's more of a character choice.

Yeah, I know about the slow walking pace of the zombie costume. I was more wondering if there was some advantage of killing them instead of just telling them you're here to see Dhall.

Killing the Dustmen is one way of dealing with them, but it really isn't a huge deal if you do. I don't believe you will miss anything.
