Brood Mother Difficulty (Minor Spoilers - Tips at End)
EDIT: This is an old post, but folks seem to be led here when searching for help. I've edited the end of this post with some tips for those in the future!

I'm having a hell of a time with the brood mother. My survivor is well-balanced and the two doctors are really pathetic for being level 3. Basically, none of us have much perception so our shots are only doing 8-10 damage and require us to be within 6AP of a target to have any decent chance of hitting it. With this in mind, tackling the Brood Mother is incredibly difficult, even with chaining stun greandes.

Most of the time, it seems like the turn order is completely out of whack. The spiders all get two full rounds before one of my guys can do anything, basically ensuring their death. Is there something I'm totally missing? Is the fight just that difficult and my dudes are too weak? Was there a way to train up before this? I feel like we're just so far behind trying to fight something more numerous and more powerful than us.

Should also be noted I have almost no ammo. Starting with an SMG guy and a Heavy Weapons guy was a bad idea since it meant we used a ton of pistol and rifle ammo

-----

Stun. Grenades. They're super important and, while not needed, do make the fight significantly easier. You should have a few from looting around in the area. If you run into a situation where you need to either save someone or stun enemies, stunning enemies always takes priority. Stunning an already-stunned enemy does NOT refresh the stun or add time, so keep this in mind. Ideally you lure enemies into a choke, get a big stun off, and take out the little spiders. The biggest spider can be somewhat kited and gunned down from afar. This is absolutely a difficult fight for most groups, but it's been extensively tested and can even be done without guns.

Remember also that there's an easy difficulty setting. There's no shame is putting it on easy for this fight.

I've done that fight, with 3 diferent squads now. Some much worse in combat than others.
spoilered
but pulling the Brood Mother and the spiders into the hallway to the corner, has allways worked for me now, regardless of how bad a squad may be. Also. any spiders that do flee, will do so towards the dead end, making finding them much easier after.
1 grenade stuns every spider. So with 3 stun grenades, the spiders will only hit a teammate once or twice. You get to shoot at point blank range, from a crouching position, or mellee hit with Pugilisim. Even without points spent in it, it worked for 1 of my squads.
Its possible a grenade toss may not stun 1 spider, but thats easilly resolved if you kill that one, if it can make it to your squad.
I'm curiouos though, have you put lvl up stat points into skills that increase Combat Inititive?

good luck.
PS: sry for typos. I butcher any language i type if i do so fast, without proof reading and spellcheckers. :(

I gave them a look-over but what I saw didn't really address my problems. Grouping them together and stunning them was my first idea, but we don't do enough damage to bring them down or get them to retreat. The squad's pathetic and the weapons are trash. The spiders getting two turns in a row is really the most devastating - I don't know if this is a consequence of them "saving up AP" while they were stunned or what, but it feels impossible without extreme luck.

Finally got it after nine attempts. Attempt seven was looking really good but the game locked up after my turn of chain stunning. The worst was enemies getting two goes in a row, but I discovered what would happen was a character of mine would be next and they'd auto-skip their turn. For a brief moment you can see them being highlighted, but it'd quickly blink away to the enemy's turn afterward.

SMG, Pistol, Shotgun, 5 stuns. One KO, but I could have prevented it if I kept a better eye on stun count.

I still disagree with the heavy RNG nature of this fight, but god I'm glad it's over.
press end turn icon not space bar to prevent autoskip your character......

Best way I found, is to stun a couple with one of the 2 stun grenades you find then fall back to the hall way and shoot what comes after you. If they get too close fall back some more. Once stun wears off you have hopefully killed the 1 or 2. Use the 2nd grenade on the rest and repeat. Works with most things. Best of luck, it is a tough one. :thatrabbit:

if stay to the left of center as you walk in and after the engagment message you can turn 2 of ur guys a round to kill the top 2 and use the 3rd to thow a stun when the 2 littles and big one group up it takes a little skill to get it just right to stun all 3 but u can i did many many many many many times due it ealrly issues

I fight them like starship troopers fights - withdraw and fire as they advance. Get them bottled up if you can.

Stun grenades! Stun grenades exploding everywhere!
The answer is simple: Pugilism

The only fight I had troubles with was the infected captain. Got so damn unlucky... most of my team was stunned all the time. My first and last reload so far.

The fight was pretty easy, compared to fight with Dr. Rhamus on the ship. He instantly killed my thoughest guy.

One stun grenade and most spiders were dead, before they could even recover. For the last spider and the mother I did not even need a stun grenade to finish them up.
