I beat Syberia a year or two ago and while I really enjoyed it and knew that the journey continued in Syberia II, other games and life called me away. When I learned that Syberia 3 was in the works, a fire got lit underneath me and I finally played and finished Syberia 2 in preparation. I am so glad that I didn't play Syberia 2 until 3 was announced because I think I would have some seriously unanswered questions, but lets start from the beginning.

Syberia II starts immediately after Syberia ends, so it is not so much a sequel as it is a continuation of the story. Now if you think that a game that has the story of a New York lawyer named Kate Walker going to Eastern Europe to wrap up a business deal and ends up instead helping an old man who is a genius with building automatons (NOT robots) go to the supposedly fictional island of Syberia where mammoths still live is boring, then move along. If however you think that that plot has possiblities you have to play it. I dare say it will be unlike any game you play. I know it stands out for me.

Where to even begin? I love the world that Benoit Sokal has created. Even though it is mostly snow, and blizzards and vey remote locations on the fringe of civilization, it is gorgeous. The cut scenes are exciting, beautiful, and add to the overall mystic feel of the game. The soundtrack is a wonderful blend of regular orchestral music or a tribal feel, depending on where you are in the game.

I love the characters. Seriously, if I were to pick a favorite heroine, it would be a tie between Commander Shephard and Kate Walker. I think Kate is that amazing. She doesn't save the world, but she questions the importance of having the ideal job in an ideal place. In her case it's a promising career in New York City. She learns how important it is to follow your dreams, and help others realize theirs, despite how crazy or off the beaten path they are. It's a real life lesson, and I think that is what makes her so special. The cast of characters that surround her are also memorable. I love Oscar. He may come off as annoying to some but personally I would love to go on a train adventure with him. The story really focuses on Hans, whom Kate is helping reach Syberia. It is his dream that is the focus and what drives Kate. The dynamic between these three makes this game special, and at times heartbreaking.

Of course, you can't have an adventure game without the puzzles. The key is to talk to everyone about everything you can. This will give you clues about where to go. Each area feels like a kind of level, so there are only so much backtracking. The puzzles are everywhere from pretty easy, to definitely having to think. It will just depend of your experience with adventure games.

Now I must address one thing - the ending. They got it right, mostly. Once the journey is over, there is definitely a loose string - Well, what now Kate Walker? Luckily, we will be getting the answer in Syberia 3, and I can't wait to see what new adventure she finds herself in.

The gameplay is the same as the previous game, but the maps are larger and there is lots of back and forth, there is still pixel hunting and the puzzles are as difficult as the previous game. It is fun though. I wished there is a map though because I tend to get lost in the large areas.

There is no journal, but in the inventory, you can check the items and notes you've picked. The most beautiful thing about this game is the artwork. it is still as good as the previous game. The colors and textures are gorgeous. I also enjoyed the soundtrack so much.

It is a very well made game that has some touching moments and the ending was perfect. I wonder why they didn't end it there as I haven't played the third game yet. Highly recommended.

It suffers from the same issues as the first Syberia (the puzzles aren't great, lots of running back and forth across empty screens) but the story goes to some interesting places and the environments are quite beautiful. I went through it with a walkthrough and enjoyed it.

Like the first game, Syberia II uses its slow pace and dreamlike atmosphere to immerse the player in its wonderful world of clockwork machinery and snowy landscapes. As an adventure game, it also turned up the puzzle difficulty, sometimes significantly.

Syberia II is, from beginning to end, one large journey, continuing straight from the ending scene of the previous game. Once again, we participate in a long trip of the returning protagonist, Kate Walker and the mysterious heir she chased all the way through the first game, Hans Voralberg.

Syberia II is a sentimental tale, where the theme of the first game has matured into such questions as how long would someone go to fulfil their old dreams before their days run out, and how one can re-evaluate their purpose in life when they find a cause worthy enough to leave everything behind.
As with most stories full of allegories, it is very slow and very dreamlike. The scenery reflects how our protagonists gradually leave the edge of civilisation as the last post of humanity, a small post-Soviet barter town fades into the distance of the vast Russian tundra, where the end of the tracks may hold the answer in their search of the last resting place of the remaining mammoths, the mythical island called Syberia.

The game uses another tool to let the players immerse themselves in its world and atmosphere besides the slow pacing: the puzzles. They don’t use the warped point ‘n’ click logic that ruined many great games, but many of them rely on trial and error or constantly travelling from one end of a large gameplay area to another. The last third of the plot is especially notorious, where the difficulty quickly rises to almost legendary levels.
But all that hardship will be worth it. Worth it for one of the most bittersweet, wonderful endings we can witness in an adventure game.

This game is a lovely little adventure. Travel around the world searching for clues to unravel a mystery. It's a puzzle-style game, where you "point and click" to interact with your environment and items in your backpack. Beautifully written and engaging story, with stylized backdrops for you to explore just long enough to enjoy them without ever getting bored. This game picks up just a little while after the first Syberia ends. So probably play that one first, then start this one.

Syberia II, the sequel to Kate Walker's adventure in Syberia picks up right where the first game left off, both Syberia games are to date some of the best point & click adventure games I've played, reach story, amazingly written characters, good graphic for it's time, great voice acting and overall an amazing game.

Syberia III is actually being developed and I can't wait to see how it will continue the story.

Such a STORY RICH game, the soundtracks and environment compliment its fine storyline. Graphics are superb for a game made in 2004. It really helps rekindle that sense of adventure that games these days lack, and never fails to amaze you every step along the way. This game is definitely worth every penny! Although I got mine for free.
I would strongly recommend this game for adventure loving gamers!

Syberia II - awesome story puzzle game. Click and move based.

All you need is mouse and a good head to play the game.

Short version:

- facial movement was sometimes buggy

It was really easy to get stuck in the puzzle if didn't scan surrounding well enough. But it was much easier than in the first game. It is really a emotional story - I really liked it. Now there is also Syberia 3 out which I most likely will play as well since the story ended kind of confusingly - like what happened with her now. *no spoilers*

Kate Walker - the character you will play as - reminded me Lara Croft a lot.

I recommend this game to people who like puzzles/story. There is no big action so yeah, only to puzzle and adventure story lovers.

The visuals are similar to Syberia. Although the landscapes might have aged, they still look beautiful and realistic. Characters' expressions are clearly shown even in detail, which gives impact to some cutscenes.

The story continues from Syberia. After finding Hans Voralberg, Kate Walker decides to follow Hans' journey to find mammoths. There aren't a lot of new areas that you are going to, but you still get a sense of adventure from playing the game. Most dialogues focus on the journey you are going through and what you need to do to reach the next area. However, the game never fails me whenever it tries to portray a cutscene of the landscape to show how amazing the environment is. These types of cutscenes focus more on the camera and background rather than dialogue to make you appreciate the environment more.

Gameplay
Syberia II is a point-and-click game. You need to travel between some areas to figure out where to go next. Some areas can be quite large, especially in the middle half of the game, making the travel to be a chore.

You need to solve puzzles with hardly any hints. Sometimes, there will be a slight hint given to solve them, but they are often too minimal—it is hard to understand what the game wants me to do, and brute-forcing the solution can take forever since there are a lot of combinations to try out. This is a part of the game that I hate the most, especially since you need to solve them to continue with the game.

Sometimes, it's hard to find out where the interactable objects are. Some interactable objects are placed close next to each other, while others can be too small for you to notice, especially since they blend well with the environment. There is no button to reveal interactable objects on the screen, so you might have to find a needle in a haystack if you are missing one item. Luckily, there aren't many cases like this.

Length and Difficulty
I finished the game in 7.3h. I admit I used a walkthrough whenever I got stuck since I don't think I'll enjoy the game otherwise. There are just too many puzzles that rely on trial and error, and it'll take a lot of time to figure out the right solution since you have to wait for the animation to finish to check whether you did it right or not. However, the ones with hints are more bearable. I wish they would add more hints to make the game easier and more enjoyable.

What captivates me when playing Syberia II is the adventure. It's nice looking for a fresh scene after you solve an area and explore everything new that comes with it. However, the game seems to be lacking in other aspects, particularly in the puzzles with brute-force solutions. My opinion is quite neutral on this game, so I'd rather recommend it, but only if you buy it at a sale.
