Auto save failed
There is 2.8 TB avaliable on the SSD. The error message also said the error code failed.

When I tried to save it manually the game CTD.

Do you meet the min specs? Are your drivers up to date? Have you verified your game files? Are you using mods? Have you tried disabling your antivirus? Many block programs from writing to disk like writing a save, especially Windows defender.

I was struggling with the same issue in Banished(an other Colony Builder)
After a long search in the web, I finally found the problem.
Sometimes, the main folder of the game(or the saves sub folder) is set to "Read-only", when this happen, no user or software can change the content of those folders, therefore, the game can't create a save file.
The solution is to manually open the properties of the main game folder, and change the attributes

I think normally this is done because you use windows defender
