Could be a mod, or there are a few things that sometimes make it crash.

See what your log says

If your log is cut off (from certain crashing) then use this

i had to delete about 1,000 instances of that 'playsound object precious extractor loopstop' to get this to post to Steam. so it seems to show something about an invalid sound loop? the latest crashing happened sort of randomly, but also when i opened the research screen (twice it crashed). the second time was so bad, i had to unplug my laptop and remove the battery cable from behind the back panel to force my computer to shut down as it had totally locked.

ah, spoiler tag didn't stuff it in a nice neat tag. sorry for the super long post
SkiRich Aug 29, 2018 @ 3:43am
This should fix your sound issues with at missing sound. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1483329835
ChoGGi Aug 29, 2018 @ 3:44am
yeah, I was gonna ask why spoiler tag? That just makes it annoying to read...
nothing wrong with using the code tag.
or just post it to pastebin

The playsound error isn't a crashing one, you can check my mods for a fix for those sounds if you want to hear them (ninja'd by ski).

Stopping the game threads after receiving WM_QUIT.
I don't think you posted a log from a crash? You could check the crashes folder, it'll sometimes put a .crash file in there.

At least it isn't a mod issue, you mentioned a laptop. Any crashing on other games that stress it?

And use pastebin for a log upload.
Iain the Hunter Aug 29, 2018 @ 4:11am
other games crashing...well, cities skylines notably does NOT crash, ever. even with tons of mods. what does crash...skyrim (but it does for everyone!), um, hmm, yeah can't think of anything else. i don't experience a lot of crashes save the heavily modded skyrim. i'll try the sound file fix to see if that works (although i think it just adds a sound that doesn't exist. it will probably still crash.)

to say again, i'm noticing more crashing around opening/closing the research panel. it will also crash one time after i first load my savegame up. it'll crash that one time right away but then after i reload it, it doesn't crash for a while. but when it crashed the last time after playing for a couple of hours with only 1 random crash, it crashed 3x in a row, sending me on the hunt for a fix.

the crash files...there are loads but i can't open them as they're .dmp files (and another file type). and i don't know how to read them. should i post them to 'pastebin' (never used that before)? so i think what i posted in the (not-so-handy) spoiler was just some other log. it's from the 'log' folder in appsdate/sm etc.

the .crash files yes, not the .dmp files

If you want to upload your save file somewhere, I'll see if I can make it crash in the research dialog.

Since you don't have any mods, you should probably make a bug report as well (you can upload your save there).

THANKS! really cool of you to offer. the save game is here: http://www.media

yep, the mod sound file didn't keep it from crashing, although it did last a whole hour! i uploaded the crash files and the most recent save game (autosave file) to here (again, mash the link together): http://www.media fire.com/?97vv53kqct87m

The playsound error isn't a crashing one, you can check my mods for a fix for those sounds if you want to hear them.

Windows 10, NVIDIA and this error:
The video card has been physically removed from the system, or a driver upgrade for the video card has occurred.
That's been an issue since the Opp update, you can try disabling fullscreen optimisations in window 10, or a clean install of your video drivers, but neither is an absolute fix.

i just updated my nvidia graphics driver today. i also just submitted a bug report with paradox. hopefully they'll have some kind of answer, although it sounds like it's unfixable, which unfortunately means i'll have to stop playing until it is fixed. it's not an enjoyable experience, unfortunately

Well more bug reports about the issue will hopefully get them to fix it, but it's been known since before the last update.
Iain the Hunter Aug 29, 2018 @ 12:44pm
so i guess it crashes on a lot of people? shame. i switched off fullscreen optimisation in the .exe file properties. i'll see if that helps a little later.
