Issues with Unemployed citizens and moving from dome to dome.
I LOVE THSI GAME! it is amazing! BUT, I have to complain about the allocation system used to move people around. I have a fully functional base, five megadomes, one for each specific job, a nursery dome, and a "tech school" dome. When my people come of age, they won't move to new domes. If they graduate from tech school, they don't go to open jobs. I have all the domes set up properly, I know I do because the people will move around properly, but after a while they just stop completely. I have to manually move people around and that SUCKS! I have 100s of hours of game time logged. I'd really hate to delete this game, but i'm at whits end. I've tried different mods with no luck. ANY INPUT ON THIS ISSUE WOULD BE AWESOME TO THE MAX! ~thanks, Jeff

First off, if you have job specific domes, you can use filters, which attracts or repels people.
Second, any job that requires a skill, put a filter on that building to only allow educated personnel.

Lastly, remember in the back of your head the order of wants for colonists.

Wants by colonists in order or precedence.
1. If Homeless, priority is find a home. Jobs will not be sought.
2. If has a home, look for a job in the same dome, or a passage attached dome.
3. No job in nearby dome? Look for a job in a far dome, if they can reach it by foot or by shuttle.
4. If Found a job in far away dome they can reach, does it have a home in that dome? No then stay put and be jobless, yes, then first try and secure the home.

If during the time it takes to move to the other dome, the colonist cannot get a reservation for the home, the colonist attempts to go back. Which may result in homelessness and joblessness.

Best thing you can do is have 10-20% more free open homes in each dome per job slot, and make a "Retirement" dome that attracts the seniors so the homes in job domes do not stay inhabited by jobless retiree's. Add a filter to reject Seniors to job domes.

Second best thing? Have an Incubator "Child" dome, that takes all the kids and puts them into one or more domes until they can work, plus controls your population growth rate by the number of nurseries you build in it.

Here use these, they will help you out ...

Incubator to control the kids ...

Thanks for your feed back. I have filters for every specialist type for every building, ( engineers for electronics factories, etc) I have a retirement dome, but at this point I have no seniors anyways. Housing is not in issue in any of these domes, ample housing is wide open and upgraded. All of these domes are connected via tunnel networks and shuttle transport is availabie, but they never use the shuttles and the shuttles never try to pick them up. I have a system in place to limit specialists to specific domes. Children are automatically moved to the nursery dome, that works perfectly well. The only dome that is open to unspecialised workers is the tech school dome. There is plenty of housing available and job slots open at the tech schools and with job demand. The major break in the system is the unspecialised not moving to the tech school dome. Also after a while graduates stop migrating even though their expected destination has available housing, services, transport access and job demand. Also I should mention this particular map I have the Service Bots breakthrough fully functional in all the service buildings in every dome, so no unspecialised works needed anywhere except the tech school dome.

I have tried many mods, but I have tried the incubator patch, does nothing for me. I haven't tried the extended relocation info mod. I'll give that a whirl! *** info mod did nothing**

Un-Specialized colonists are a bit weird, but if you understand the priority of their migration it is not tough to get them to do something. I dont know your layout, but if you have an education type dome with just one university you should set that as the central dome connected to all the other domes. Let unspecialized live anywhere. The way Universities work is a colonist will visit the university every so often whether trained or not, if not trained and some spots are available they stay and get trained. Then seek work.
University slots are not jobs and workers don't seek those slots for work purposes (even though the mechanics are the same internally). It acts more like a service building in this regard so you wont get them to move for University.
Take a look at this guide I made about how training colonists work. It belongs to the corresponding mod, but the information contained is a good read. Plus if you decide to use the NASA Ed mod you can do things like re-educate colonists that you no longer have a use for.

i was really wondering if that was how the uni worked. i thought it may be like real life as after work. i have found, so far, the best way for the transfering of people between domes was to always have an excess of shuttles, and low work load. then people move where i want them. but i have to stay on top of the pop in each dome. i am really getting to like this game. newest base has 1 mega dome and i have the unmanned metal diggers. built the space elevator and am getting mass moneys and research. without the martian thing that gives you the 2billion a shot.

If you really rely on shuttles for this, you may find this handy to have shuttles reserved for colonists.
The reservation system is simple to understand but if you want the resource AI as well read the guide.
