EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION
OS: Windows 10
Game Version 0.933

During dialogue with CoolK (I guess with other characters as well) I randomly (often!!) get this crash.
Game window closes. Backroung console window still running and I get the "EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION" error with an OK button.

Ok. Happens also with other characters. Just had a dialogue with Quaid One and after the final dialogue sentence the game crashed with the above stated "Windows Exception".

Hi Ian,

Thanks for the report!

Information that will help us hunt this bug down:
- Does it happen with every character you talk to?
- Is it a specific dialogue choice that triggers it?
- Are you connected to Steam while playing? (might be achievement related)

It would be a huge help if you could send us the save file right before the crash to: crunchyleafgames -at- gmail.com

The same crash also happened while I was flying through space. I was just flying around not doing anything special. The crash happened while just flying forward, no shooting at that time. Screen was empty. That means I was in the middle of space. No NPC/wreckage was on screen. Just some occasional cloud prites.

As for your questions:
1. Did happen with several characters. Did not test all.
2. Does not seem to be choice specific. Randomly crashs during dialogue.
3. Yes. Connected to Steam and online. If you can get an achievement while flying in space doing nothing special then this might be possible but I don't think so.

I will send you the save file but might it be possible to add some debug code that produce crashlogs or something? Because as of yet the crashes seem kind of random. While dialogue and moving in space. i.e. while player (keyboard?) interaction (flying = movement keys; dialogue = spacebar/number/digit

Thanks for sending the save file.

One more question: Do you have the "Keep playing music" option activated in the sound options? If so, could you test it with that option turned off?
Kiddow Jul 10, 2016 @ 5:52am
Is it turned on when it's green or red?
Kiddow Jul 10, 2016 @ 5:58am
I tried it with this option turned off and went out into space. I started a fight with a pirate. Hit him several times and at the end of the fight (I can only guess it was the end of the fight and the pirate were about to explore) the game crashed with the excpetion.

Ok, I just tried the savefile and everything worked for me.

There have been some issues on systems that haven't been rebooted for a long time.
Perhaps you could restart and see if it works then?

We are trying to fix all of these bugs, but they are very hard to hunt down.
Please let me know if that works!

Turning it off and on again didn't help :)

I guess some software I have installed calls this excpetion. Which is pretty much impossible to hunt down for me too. If I, by some strange coincidence, figure out which caused it, I will let you know.

I'll have a look into windows event log sometime. If I find the time.

I had this when accessing a Job Console.

Hi anon,

thanks for the report!
Any more information you can give?
Was your system running for a long time?
Did you do anything specific before using the Job Console?
agentmith Sep 5, 2016 @ 5:48pm
I just had this happen, after completing a junk shooting mission it crashed when I tried to dock with the station.

Thanks for the report agentsmith.

These crashes are extremely rare and very hard to reproduce, and we need to reproduce the bug so we can fix it. It's like a huuge tire with a hole in it - if we can't find the hole there's no way we can fix it.

So if you have any more details; anything that might make it more likely the bug will happen for us, then please add them to your report:

- Where exactly were you (Which system, station, etc)
- What was happening on screen (Other ships, your surroundings, were any screens open)
- Were there certain steps you did right before (just closed some other window, just talked to a character)
- Hardware info (Your OS, running in Fullscreen, which resolution)

Still, even without these, each bug report is highly appreciated and will help fix a bug eventually, so please keep it up!

Also started getting this crash, seems to be pretty random: after salvaging ships, just flying around, entering stations, etc. Happened in different systems/stations, turning this music thing in the options doesn't affect this (tried both on and off).

Playing the game with online Steam overlay, don't think it's related to achievements though, getting them didn't crash the game.

Running Win7 SP1 x32, Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz, GeForce GT 610 1GB Vram, 4GB RAM
1920x1080 fullscreen.

Also, along with ACCESS_VIOLATION sometimes this one appears: EXCEPTION_INT_DIVIDE_BY_ZERO

Hope that helps.

Thank you Infirito!

We'll go over the latest update changes and double-check everything, to see if there is anything that might have caused this.

Can you estimate how often these issues occur?
Is the issue happening more often than before the latest update?
Infirito Sep 24, 2016 @ 3:26am
I haven't played before the update, but in this one it's started to happen after ~8-9 hours into the game. It happens more often right after I exit derelicts after salvaging them (~65% of crashes);
As for overall frequency, can't really say, sometimes game crashes after 10 minutes and sometimes runs for 2 hours with no issues, can't make out a system.
