- Voice acting! It's really good.
- Artstyle is decent. Some places do look too blurry, but character art and design is good.
- Lighthearted. Given that you don't rage on stuff that "was already used so much in media". Here there's quite a bit of tropes characters, but personally I don't mind.
- Customizable difficulty to a degree. You can change damage multiplier for you and enemies, make that kills give you special points to use your ult moves.
- Different enemies. I didn't expect any variety in enemies, but here it's varied enough that I don't feel tired.
Minuses:
- Battles are a tad shallow. Not many tactical choices, since ability pool is kinda small
- Battle arenas are flat - no verticality whatsoever
- Only 4 characters in battle. Most of these kind of games alow you to have more.
- Not a big roster of characters. I think it's 12-13 that you could use in party and about as many as an NPC that you talk to.
- Autolvl enemies. Not bad, but some people don't like it at all
- LOADING SCREENS GALORE. You will be quickly tired of them, since almost every click leads to loading screen.
- Slowness. Yeah, you can change battle speed, but it doesn't save, so you need to change it every time you do battle.
- Customisation is only with DLC and only for character skins. No visible weapons on models or anything.
Can't say much about music. It seems like it's lacking in variety, but it's decent overall - I usually don't notice it, but at times it gets repetitive.
Overall:
Sadly, if your goal is to challenge yourself with difficult battles (think majong/chess/go) where you could use plethora of chars with pletora of abilities (disgaea/fft/battle brothers) - you probably won't be satisfied with this.
I find it enjoyable. DLCs don't actually add that much. Mostly just another pair of characters so that you'd get to experience their story and get some perks. Nothing gamebreaking.
The challenges for each level are annoying, and some are near impossible, plus not meeting the challenges makes it even harder to meet the next set because by not meeting them you receive smaller rewards. It's just as poor a system as kill streak rewards in Call of Duty, it rewards only the best players.
In addition to these issues I'm really annoyed that the tooltip popups cover parts of the battlefield and sometimes cover the squares that each ability will hit making it difficult to see where an ability could land. There also seems to be no proper description of what area effect or range any ability has, you have to figure it out by using it in combat. Not the end of the world, but a small icon or graphic showing area of effect plus a number showing range would be nice.
It's not a bad game, just falls short on some little, but important, things.
thanks for your answers, reviews are really mixed, i ll just wait for a big big discount, thank you for your answers
- Constant loading screens
- Time limit (this might not be that problematic since it's more of a turn-based calendar system with a limited amount of turns, but would still prefer it without). The "you have to play it multiple times to see all the content" thing is _not_ a selling point for me.
- Bonus objectives in combat that are mostly about playing fast, not well (basically another time limit, and one that makes no sense in most cases).
It's a shame, because I think there's a really good game underneath.
a)the excessive loading screens (although only for like 2-3 seconds most of the time, its still boring as everything has a load screen!)
b)the difficulty level of nightmare mode. I really enjoyed the game but as I was approaching to the end I felt like I was just pissed off because of the nightmare mode and the ruthlessness of the battles; but since you can choose the mode when you start the game, this suffering is enterily optional!
As much as the game seems slightly difficult even in normal mode, if you are interessed in the story only and not the challenge, you have the option of choosing the easist difficult and that doesnt impact on the achievements. The story mode 'easy' difficult let you SKIP the battles and focus on story/character interaction. Normal mode is the bread and butter but can be annoying if you want an easy life in battles.
The 'progression' system in he city management is interesting. I really liked and enjoyed the mix of tacical battles + management + building relationships with characterers. It was a good combo of things that blended well and made me have a LOT of fun in the game.
So in any way, the game is pretty solid to me. Voice acting, cast of characterers, graphics. I think this rpg has it all. The combat is challenging but definitively not impossible nor brutal (unless youre playing on nightmare, that is). I woul recommend buying ONLY if:
a) you really like rpgs in general;
b) you want a funny and rather solid storytelling and interesting characterers;
c) if you want a little bit of challenge in battles (and if you dont, you can skip them if you play on story mode)
d) if the game is in SALES promotion.
Hope that can help!
the system for map battles is kinda annoying, and not having a Normal attack is kinda annoying..
But all in all its decent
