Hood Warfare 2 a better game

I can’t believe a game like Hood Warfare 2 is able to capture the Modern Warfare 2 (2009) X360 days, I was hoping Gears of War E Day to bring back those lobbies but instead we get a hr code of conduct bs.

If You Hate Gears of War E-Day.

This is for all of the people who hate the game, be it for the inclusion of women, lgbtq themes, or anything else. I'd suggest that you sit down and watch the 1990s Animated TV Series "Moomin" The show really helped me understand that considering different perspectives doesn't diminish our personal views. It simply serves as a gateway to understanding others and being more accepting. But perhaps most importantly, more compassionate and how people of different walks of life can come together. So is Baldur's Gate 3 woke then?

Am trying to understand what woke is now that Gears e-day campaign is classed as woke, so that must mean Baldur's Gate 3 campaign is also woke? I mean you can't have it both ways.

Gears of War: E-Day is Available Now

Oct 6

Today marks the worldwide launch of Gears of War: E-Day[www.xbox.com], now available on XBOX Series X|S, XBOX on PC, Game Pass and Steam. One of XBOX’s most iconic sagas returns to where it all began, taking players back to the opening hours of Emergence Day and the catastrophic event that changed the world of Sera forever.

Emergence Day is a defining moment for the Gears of War universe – the catastrophic event changed the world of Sera forever, but the story of that fateful night has never been fully told, until now.

Gears of War: E-Day transports us back to the opening hours of the Locust invasion, where an unsuspecting world is ruthlessly plunged into chaos as monsters erupt from underground. Across three harrowing days and nights, Marcus Fenix, Dom Santiago and their fierce new squad mates fight desperately to survive the onslaught consuming the city of Kalona, while uncovering the true scale of a threat unlike anything they – or humanity – has ever faced.

From the moment the prologue opens, Gears of War: E-Day showcases a masterclass in action-horror. This is not the Locust enemy you’ve fought before. They’re equally cunning as they are violent, and frankly, you should be terrified to face them. If this is your first deployment, or you’re coming out of retirement to fight the war ahead, we’ve got you covered. Before you step out onto the streets of Kalona, here are a few things every Gear should know.

Learn When to Push Forward, When to Hold Your Ground, and When to Get Out of the F**ckin’ Way

Gears of War is famously a cover-based shooter, and you’ll rely on it to stay alive as you push through the Locust. Keep your head down and dip from cover-to-cover – and avoid walking out into the open unless you’re rushing an enemy with a melee attack. Even a handful of Drones can deal massive damage while you’re exposed, which can be trouble for both you and the squadmate that may have to come and revive you. Sometimes, the best course of action is to hold patiently and pick off enemies as they come, and there’s no shame in that strategy.

Sometimes, you’ll just need to haul ass and stay as mobile as you can, which I quickly learned during an early fight with a Brumak wielding a horrible chain weapon. There’s no peace to be found in cover for that situation – fan out, keep it distracted, and pray that it doesn’t decide to charge you while your gun is jammed.

Know Your Loadout

Each weapon you’ll find in E-Day is deeply situational, which makes for a great tactical experience. The Chainsaw Lancer is a great all-rounder, offering close-to-mid range firepower and a big ol’ (upgradeable) mag to chew through. The Gnasher is a stellar shotgun, fantastic for devastating point-blank damage. The Longshot Sniper, one of my personal favorites, pops a slick, long-range slug into unsuspecting foes from a great distance. Not only is that incredibly satisfying each time, but it lets you get a stack of damage into a tankier enemy – like a Boomer, before it gets close to you. There are caches dotted around Kalona that let you switch up your loadout, too, so don’t feel like you’re locked into a specific style of play forever. Mix up your strategy, swap roles with your friends, but above all – experiment!

Melee is a Gear’s Best Friend

I know I said this is a cover-based shooter, but sometimes you’ll need to resort to more personal measures. Before E-Day even lets you look at a gun, it hands out a crash course in melee – one of the most useful, life-saving abilities for a Gear. Spend some time getting to grips with how it works when wielding a metal pipe and the Snub pistol – figure out the weight of the swing, and how it feels to hit enemies in front, and more importantly, behind you. Later, melee becomes even more fun with the Chainsaw Lancer, and you’ll feel extra confident with it once you’ve got the basics of backhanding down.

Blind Shooting is Back, and Remains Effective

As soon as you pop your head up to aim a shot, you’re a giant bullet magnet, effectively inviting every weapon-wielder on the map to pop you like a balloon. Fortunately, Gears can shoot blind from behind cover, which is a superb way to dish out additional damage to something getting too close for comfort. If you don’t have the health to rush out for a melee takedown, or you need a few seconds of recovery time, blind fire from cover is a clutch move to get the job done.

Look Out For Side Missions, And Their Rewards

While E-Day‘s campaign is primarily linear, Kalona has large pockets of open space with multiple pathways towards the next objective, as well as side paths that may lead to side missions. These are smaller, optional objectives that let you support other squads, help civilians, and otherwise contribute to saving the city. Not only do they offer additional insight into the wider story, you’ll also get a nice reward for doing it, often a weapon mod.

Audio Chime Means Collectables

While you’re exploring, keep an ear open for a sharp chime whenever you enter a new area of the city – anywhere from inside a building to a side street. That means there’s a collectable nearby. These range from familiar items like COG armor and tags, to esoteric pieces like… a can of soup. They all come with great little lore entries too, some written by the squad members themselves. It’s a wonderful added insight into their stories, and the wider world, so pick them up when you can.

Now that you’re equipped with the basics, there’s only one thing left to do – get out there. Gather your squad, load up, and uncover the world-shattering event that started it all. Gears of War: E-Day is available today on XBOX Series X|S, XBOX on PC, Game Pass and Steam. Play it on both console and PC at no additional cost with XBOX Play Anywhere.

For the Gears die-hards out there like myself, the game is just OK. Thinking back on GoW 3 and how they added SO many revolutionary and novel things to the game. Now E-Day is finally here, and they've REMOVED a majority of said ideas!! Using a human meat shield? gone. Frag tagging? gone. Chainsaw duels? gone. Almost every gun having a cool execution? gone. Playing as a locust in horde? gone.

I understand being a prequel there are some things that can't canonically be in this game but damn... a GoW 3 remake woulda beat this game.

Why is the gearsofwar subreddit so pro-woke and full of angry soy boys?

Personally I'm not in either camp, just want a good game with Marcus and Dom so may pick this game up. But something is off about reddit gaming forums. Just thought I'd check on here what's going on over there lol, anyone who says they dont like Mags gets tonnes of dislikes and possibly banned lmao....

Gameplay: Yes.
Story: No.

My Thoughts on Gears of War: E‑Day (Spoilers obviously)

E‑Day nails the atmosphere, visuals, and gameplay. The COG military feels fully realized, the sound design is incredible, and the chaos of the Locust invasion is captured beautifully. But the story never landed for me, and after revisiting the game, I finally understand why.

Marcus and Dom — the characters who should anchor this origin — are treated like background soldiers. They’re present constantly, but they’re reactive instead of active, and their emotional arcs barely exist until the very end.

The game clearly wants Lucas and Mags to carry the emotional weight. And to be fair, they do get development and interaction throughout the game. They’re not absent. But almost all of that development is undermined by the major story beats.

Mags is older, retired, blind in one eye, physically compromised, and suffering from rust lung — yet she never shows weakness, never falters, never makes mistakes, and somehow leads in battle while younger, stronger, actively deployed Gears are dying around her. Her physical condition never affects her performance as it should, and her emotional beats are generic “E‑Day is traumatic” moments that every Gear is experiencing. She’s treated like a symbolic protagonist instead of a believable soldier.

Lucas is another problem. He too is present the entire game but barely developed until Act 4, when he reveals he repeatedly broke military protocol to contact his friends in an active combat zone — a selfish, deliberate decision that got them killed. The story frames this as a “mistake” and forgives him instantly, even forcing Dom into a soft “You’re not alone, Reyes” moment that cheapens the gravity of what happened.

Meanwhile, the NPC Gears feel more real than the main cast. These are younger, stronger, recently deployed soldiers who panic, adapt, make harsh choices, suffer consequences, and die. They embody the brutality and humanity that define Gears. Lucas and Mags don’t.

E‑Day has incredible production value, but no emotional anchor. The story tries to be tragic without letting tragedy have weight, and that’s why it never hit me the way I hoped.

I'll start with the positive.

-Gameplay feels smooth, combat can be fun and satisfying.
-Visually the game looks great.
-I didn't have any crashes unlike some others

Now the negative.

-Random stuttering that would require me to restart the game.
-AI teammates that would sometimes just ignore you entirely or not know how to handle certain mechanics. They would also just be firing at nothing for half the campaign.
-Strange balancing with one shot mechanics and enemies pitted against you in tight quarters, while having large HP pools (looking at you, reavers).

The story. I've seen the discourse online, and decided to make my own opinion because Gears of War holds a place in my childhood as a beacon for strong male characters.

Your enjoyment of the story vastly depends on your connection to Marcus and Dom. If you didn't care for them in the other games, or if you didn't really play them, then you might like the story.

However, if you have a sincere connection to Marcus and Dom. You will absolutely despise what they did in multiple areas of this campaign. I would say 65%-70% of dialogue comes from Mags. Dom and Marcus are silent for most of the campaign up until the final act.

A few highlights (minor spoilers), these are just a few that got to me.
-Scene with Marcus and Dom about a major loss in their lives. Mags literally interrupts with a coughing fit and ends the scene abruptly.
-At one point Mags takes complete charge of the squad, while Marcus just has some strangely out of character episode. She literally tells him to get his ♥♥♥♥ together, which, just seems downright disrespectful. At this point, Marcus is a hardened veteran and war hero. NOT some fresh NCO that doesn't know how to lead. The writers wrote Marcus all wrong here, and frankly, seems like a way to put MORE focus on Mags, while belittling Marcus' character.
-Speaking of leading, Mags makes probably half or more of the decisions in this game, tells the squad what to do, and is pretty disrespectful to multiple characters for little to know reason.
-Very few scenes with Marcus and Dom as the focus. They were at the forefront of the marketing for this game. So this honestly just feels like false advertising.

I would also like to point out an act that I haven't seen mentioned too much. Which is where there is some banter between a couple pilots. This has to be some of the worst written dialogue I've ever experienced in a video game. It makes me think of a 12 year old that learned curse words for the first time.

I wish I could recommend it. I really wanted to reach the end of the campaign and be like "hey turns out the incels were just being incels and its not that bad!". But no, this feels like a personal attack.

By the end of act 3 I was just rushing through so I could it over with and move on to the horde mode. If this game was advertised differently then I would probably leave a more positive review, but the coalition made it seem like this was a story focusing around Marcus and Dom. It's not.
