Control Scheme Issue - selecting missions

I'm playing on the Steam Deck, which works generally pretty well. I'm playing with the Gamepad setting as the controller. However, when choosing to start a mission which has a selection for ant type (e.g. artillery ants strength vs fire rate, leafcutter majors stun vs taunt) the focus is not on the menu, and trying to press anything takes you out of the mission select menu. To start a mission, I need to change the controls to gamepad with trackpad, start the mission, then change back.
