Switching between the Scythe and the Harvester resets their weapon level when you switch back :(
With the original game I never had the Harvester bonus content, so naturally I've been using it on this playthrough... I briefly switch to the Scythe to look at the difference between them, and upon switching back I see that it resets the weapon level- it basically thinks you just bought it even though you already own it and are just equipping it again.

So I just lost a good bit of progress because of this... would be nice if this could be fixed

Does this bug work in the original game or only in Deathinitive Edition?
there is no harvester in the original.

the harvester was a preorder bonus for gamestop (i think) - it gave you a code you could type in through the menus, so you could just get the code from the internet (it was something like 'hollow lord') and it would unlock for you... however, i think the part of the menu that contained the input was removed from the pc version so there'snowhere to put the code... i'm not 100% sure but i think that is the case.

FYI, I've tested this and the EXP definitely does get transferred between Harvester and Scythe. However, I assume that this isn't done correctly when you import a save file from the original game. Warmastered Edition stores some additional data in the save file that wasn't previously stored in there for the ability to switch between Harvester and Scythe. I'm not sure about this, but when you import a save file, this data isn't there yet, which I assume could cause the bug to occur. A simple oversight, since the save data import was a rather late addition to the game. On a fresh save file, this definitely shouldn't happen, though, and was tested many times by me. Even on an imported save file, I think after switching between both weapons once, the bug might not occur anymore. It's definitely a very special case.

no, i tested this multiple times. when you switch between them, upon requipping the item, its reset back to 0 with no exp as if you had just bought it- i'm not the only person who is getting this- and i wasnt using an imported game save either.

honestly, i'm more annoyed about the abssyal armor bug STILL existing.. apparently it was never fixed in the original pc version so i'm not really expecting that to change :/

there is no harvester in the original. and why are you bringing up the deathinitive edition? that's not even the right number game :u
Are you actually retarrded or are you just too lazy to read what you quoted????
(really hope you are joking)
Way to postpone the answer with your tomfoolery.

Ya so that was a thing in Deathinitive Edition.
i'll try in the Wii U version since that came out later next time i dust it off and use it.
(would check PS3 version as well but that the launch version and i am stuck in the soul arbiters maze so i can't even complete the dam thing on PS3 since it just crashes when i beat the boss thanks Vigil.....)

So you're saying the EXP is only lost once you actually reequip the Scythe after switching? Well, that's certainly some new information to me that noone seemed to mention before. During most of my testing, I always kept the Scythe equipped, but did switch between the two Scythes in the Vulgrim menu and check the pause menu inbetween to see if the EXP was still there. If the EXP is only lost upon reequiping the Scythe, that's something I can try to see if it changes anything for me.

It's actually fixed by now in our build. Will go public with the next patch.

Alright, thanks for the save file. This helped me discover and fix the bug.

It turned out that when transferring the EXP, the game used a variable that was only valid for the current session (that is, a variable that was reset to 0 at the beginning of each session). So switching between the two scythes in the same session in which you bought them would always work, but once you left the game, came back and switched the scythes afterwards, the EXP would always reset to 0. Kinda blows my mind how I wasn't able to figure this out without someone else's save file. The transfer is using the correct EXP variable now, so EXP should be transferred correctly with the coming patch.
Neato.

Glad the save helped. The only thing I will add is that when you first buy the Harvester from Vulgrim it (from memory) auto selects it and I think going by what you said it should transfer the XP as it's in the same session. However, I am sure that it was reset to 0 when the Harvester was first equipped. But hopefully your fix should also prevent that case anyway.
I'm not sure if I understood that correctly, but what matters is the time when you buy your first scythe (whether it's the Harvester or a regular scythe). If that was in the same session as when you switch to the other scythe, the EXP should be transferred, otherwise they would be lost (and only the EXP from the current session would be transferred). We'll hopefully see how things work out soon.

OK. I didn't buy the Scythe and Harvester in the same session so that explains why I lost the XP.
correct me if i'm wrong but you don't have to buy the sycthe if you buy the harvester first (which is what i did) - once i saw the sycthe was able to be equipped is when i decided to switch to it- i would have never wasted the souls if you still had to buy it after buying the harvester.

and i'm pretty certain that i did this all in the same session, so that may not be the cause either. i didn't notice my exp had reset until after some time went by when i went into the menu, but when i did i loaded the latest autosave and tested switching to the sycthe (i never leveled it any, i only equipped it to remind myself of what it looked like compared to the harvester) but upon switching back to the harvester, the harvester is back to 0 with no exp-- even though you are equipping someting you already bought, you are basically buying a brand new one that doesn't charge you again lol

damn i hope that's true... i played through the origianl version a few times and it annoyed me each time that it remained broken..

besides the weapon and abyssal armor bugs, i didn't have any other technical problems with this version of the game except for one instance in the iron canopy where i executed an insta-kill on one of the spiderlings right up against a wall and the animation ended with me stuck halfway inside the wall unable to get out.. i did actually manage to get myself knocked out somehow though

You're right, buying the Harvester gives you the regular scythe for free. And yes, the way it's meant to be is that the EXP is always transferred between the two scythes, so you should always keep your EXP, no matter which scythe you're currently using.

Let's wait for the next patch and see if that fixes the problem for everyone. I'm confident that my fix should do the trick, but of course unforseen things that always happen.
well its not a problem for me now lol, once i discovered the bug it was no problem to avoid the sycthe.. i only wanted to look at it one time to see what it looked like before switching back to the harvester. like i said, i was more annoyed at the abyssal armor still not transferring into new game + because i want to replay on apocalypse

in my opinion, the sycthe is best weapon in the game once you figure out how to really use it, especially when you combine it with the chaoseater in combos..
eh. honestly even though i prefer the scythe, i feel like the tremor gauntlet has better crowd control level-for-level. the scythe is kinda slow honestly- i was frequently getting hit by enemies even in the attacks that cover 360 degrees around your body, and in general when i was grinding the iron canopy i was clearing the spider rooms significantly faster with the gauntlet's power attacks. the leveled up RB + forwards + Y and RB + Y attacks just melt through crowds

This is even happening in the PS4 version... and it's now October 2017. So I guess if anyone is still experiencing this problem they are stuffed. On top of the other problems I've noticed with the Definitive edition, I'd say there's nothing 'definitive' about it at all. The original is the better, more polished, less buggy game.
Especially with the fan-made patch that fixes the hard-coded Save Game file size limitation (why is this even a thing?), which leads to the game save becoming progressively corrupted in NG+ as the file size tries to exceed this hard-coded limitation...
