7.5/10. Point-and-click detective adventure with a lot of attitude, Beat Cop will keep you entertained with its colourful cast of characters and hilarious dialogue. If you're a fan of Monkey Island, Loom or anything made by Lucas Arts in the '90s, this one could be right up your alley. There's a fair amount of agency and RNG in the game that allows you to reach 9 different endings depending on the choices you make. More importantly to me, the choices don't feel forced at all.

There are 3 main factions—police, mafia and the crew—you work with on the streets to get through the day, each with its own perks. Each day is sprinkled with mini-games and quests which form a large chunk of core gameplay, such as writing tickets for parking offences; nabbing and shooting thiefs/robbers; interfere with mafia extortion... the list goes on. Each action will increase your relationship with one faction while decreasing another. For example, you'd get tipped off about the mafia using taxis to ferry drugs. You can perform the car searches (make sure they're legal) and finally decide whether to return the drugs or make an arrest. It did get a little bit tedious near the end of the game once you've seen each and every single mini-game, but personally I felt there was enough variety to keep things fresh till the end. All while trying to solve the mystery of the main story!

Strong recommendation if you're feeling a little nostalgic for retro adventure games or enjoy adventure games in general. Small tip: you're gonna need good reading skills as the game drops clues in ephemeral dialogue.
