edit : Oh you're right about the 3rd. And there are other games with "civilization" in the name : Idle civilization, fall of civilization, lost civilization ? And that's just for the ones on steam. What about the ones on browser, facebook, etc.
Удачи! Правда на Вашей стороне!
Putting a "pre" in front of it doesn't make it substantially different. That it is a common word doesn't mean that it can't be a trademark (ever hear of Apple?). If your case is that they haven't properly enforced it because they ignored Gal Civ then good luck to you in court. You have no idea if they've licensed or issued permission to Stardock to give their games that name.
If you named your game Egypt Total War do you think you'd get away with it? It appears that you tried riding the coattails on the Civ 6 release and you got slapped for it. If you didn't do this on purpose then you showed a startling lack of judgement. The same thing happened to Call to Power in the 90s. Microprose won then....Take Two will win now.
If you want your game back on Steam it's quite likely you're simply going to have to rename it. I'd suggest Egypt: Pre-Enlightenment.
It doesn't matter what style of game you make. You could make a 1st person shooter . If you call it Civilization Hunter you're going to get sued - and lose.
The law is the law, whether you like it or not. It'd tell you to shove it up yours but your head is in the way.
The law is what it is. Become an advocate if you want to change it but until the laws are rewritten those are the rules.
You wouldn't know how Civ 6 is. You haven't played it.
