Update 1.0.5: New Songs, a Music Page and Your Ideas Welcome

5:37am

Update 1.0.5

Thank you for playing! This update adds two original songs and a new Music page, and we would love your ideas for the world.

New songs

"The Flame That Heals", a duet for Sera and Aldric, now plays on the closing card of the true ending.
"The Weaver's Lullaby", the song Wynn sings in the tavern, now plays on the closing card of the seventh ending, "The Lullaby That Takes".

Music page

New Music page in the main menu and in the game menu. Each song unlocks when you finish the ending it belongs to, and then you can play it again whenever you like, with its illustration.
Songs you have not unlocked yet show a question mark, and their Play button is disabled.
When you leave the page, the music that was playing before comes back.
Music credits in About updated.

Help us grow the world

The Flame and the Sword has a lot of room to grow, and you can help shape it.

If you have played the game and have ideas for the lore or the world (a place Sera should visit, a character you would like to meet, a myth, a faction, a side story, a "what if"), please send them to edobgames@gmail.com.

Every idea gets read, and the ones that fit may find their way into a future update. I hope you will contribute!

Saves

Your existing saves should keep working. Endings you have already finished unlock their songs automatically. If anything looks wrong, please tell us in the discussions.

Enjoy, and thank you for the support!

Update 1.0.4: Ending Cards, a Valley of Fires and the Palace Fix

2:54am

Update 1.0.4

Thank you for playing! This update gives every ending a proper farewell and rewards you for the people you helped before the march on Storn.

Ending cards

After the last line of each of the seven endings, the screen now fades to black and the name of the ending appears, with its music playing.
Faint cut-outs of the game's art drift across the dark: the ending's own illustration, the places and scenes you actually saw in your playthrough, and the portraits of the characters Sera met. No two playthroughs look the same.
When the music ends, the card fades out and the game returns to the main menu.
Saves from before this update rebuild the list of pictures you have seen automatically, based on the stories they show you played.

Act 3

New illustration for the night before Storn. If nearly everyone Sera helped in Valdra and beyond has answered the call, the valley is no longer dark: hundreds of fires burn across it.
With a smaller host, the night keeps its quiet valley and its few low fires, and the closing line of the scene with Aldric was adjusted to fit both versions.

Fixes

The Royal Palace could stay locked for the whole game: it only opened if you chose to investigate Caspar after finding the shadow-treated crates in the warehouse. Now it opens however you resolve Gregor's smuggling case (reporting it, investigating Caspar or burning the crates). Princess Elara, the palace stories and the court allies of Act 3 are no longer missed because of that one choice.
Saves that had already finished Gregor's smuggling case without the palace now find it on the city map.

Update 1.0.3: New endings to side stories, new art and fixes

Oct 15

Update 1.0.3

Thank you for playing! This update completes several side stories, adds new artwork and fixes a few things.

New and finished stories

Gareth's story about Breth now has an ending: take his testimony to Master Orwyn in the Tower, hear what Orwyn knows and what he did, then bring his answer back to Gareth. There are three different answers, depending on what you ask of Orwyn.
Commander Vex and Captain Aldric finally meet to settle Pren's case, with a different scene depending on whose side you took.
Captain Theo reports back on Cale and the amulet, with a different outcome depending on how you handled the proof.
Saves from before this update that had already finished these stories will offer the new scenes automatically.

New and improved art

New illustration: Sera treating the sick under the bridge of the Ash Yard, with Tobin and Alma beside her.
Commander Vex has a new medieval look, in both his calm and angry poses.
Torin is now the middle-aged blacksmith the story describes, and has his own forge.
The chess game now uses plain white and black pieces.
The dwarves illustrations now show exactly seven dwarves.
New farewell illustration with the two forest nymphs.
Tobin and Marta are now placed between Sera and the other speaker in their conversations.

Improvements and fixes

The Valdra districts now have a button to go back to the city map.
The Northern Forest menu is split into pages, so long lists no longer run off the screen.
Witch Sorrel has her own calm music.
Old Mira's mission now takes place in the Poor Quarter alleys.
The studio splash screen no longer crashes on computers without a graphics card that supports acceleration.
Partying in the Gryphon's cellar now has a price: a little more of the shadow song gets into Sera's head.
