Which Settings to Turn Down to Improve FPS?
I have Ryzen 9 5900X and RTX 3090 (32GB RAM, SSD) and was kind of expecting to be able to play Wildlands on steady 144fps at 1440p which is not the case as the FPS averages in the low 90s and high 80s on ULTRA. Does anybody know, which settings to sacrifice to get my performance there? Preferably those that do not impact image quality as much.

EDIT: I misread 3070 somehow, that means my comment is only correct for rtx3070 :steamfacepalm:
Seems your results are exactly where they should be :brawler:
1440p: You will get 90-100fps as in similar games like Hitman2 or ShadowOfTheTombRaider.
Just Ubisoft´s Engine does no scale that well, meaning even 1080p you will sit ~125fps with this or AC:Origins.. while the mentioned SquareEnix-games can pull 140-145fps in 1080p.
Still, doesn´t matter much, because most players run 60-80fps setups.. and consoles are 30/60fps anyway. Luxury problem..

To be fair, the games are made and centered around 60-80fps.. more is a bonus, but will get you nowhere because it´s no OnlineShooter. And because Ubisoft games tend to deep-track a ton of values, the read will prevent that smooth experience you imagine :D:

EDIT 2: Correct values for rtx3090 would be roughly..
1080p ...175-180fps
1440p ...135-140fps (still some drops to ~120)
4K (2160p /8,3MP) ...85-90fps (still some drops to ~70)

If you're running nVIDIA, just uninstall GeForce Experience.

BTW, a lot of guys and gals obsessed with 60+ framerates have NO idea what they're obsessing over. Look at it this way: Pretend it's sex.

You don't start with a gawdamned measuring tape—you start with SEX. It's great. It';s wonderful. Maybe there aren't fireworks and flashing thunder and lightning, but the Earth definitely moves. You give it a 9.5...and then some moron says, "Let's measure it!"

Now all you can think about is that gawdamned number. You find that you think the sex SUCKS. Idiot. Put away the measuring tape!

I do not really start a game with an FPS counter if that is what your analogy refers to. I'll set my settings and try the game out and if it feels off, then I'll investigate with said counter and anything bellow 100fps just feels off to me. You could say I am too spoiled (and you'd most likely be right) but I value smooth 100-144fps over graphics. Still, it would be a shame to waste Wildland's graphics potential and that is why I asked which settings might be impacting the performance most.

This is not entirely true. RTX 3090 is capable of handling many CURRENT AAA titles in 4k60fps which should roughly translate to 1440p/144fps performance. Its just a few titles that developers could not manage to optimize well, case in point - Wildlands. Thank you for the guide though, appreciate it.

Oh.. darn, I misread.. I was talking about rtx3070 :steamfacepalm:
holy cow.. where did you get a 3090? and in these days?!? rofl
ok to make up for it, I will correct myself (comment above) and give values for your card :D:

-> sidenote regarding 60fps in AC:Valhalla.. stable average fps is only 54@4K blame Ubisoft :steammocking:

Yes, you´re right with that. Even among Ubisoft games, Wildlands and AC:Origins stick out.. and it´s even worse, if you have AMD/Radeon cards.. the newer ones (rx5XXX) underperform in Wildlands

Glad you like the Guide. Yes, this guide can help you tweaking, because Full-ULTRA in Wildlands is a very, ..very troublesome child :cozypoesad:
Personally, I prefer doing without the last 4 ULTRA-settings.. the game looks nice - yes, but for me any higher fps-drop is annoying as hell (esp. in Coop). Sadly, Wildlands creates frequent 30% drops in max. Settings..

No problem, I actually managed to snatch the graphics card even before the horrendous MSRP price hike so I was really lucky.

I was writing this post mainly because I was not sure, whether there is a setting option that significantly drops FPS that I could turn off (I remember that, for instance, Wither 3 had that NVIDIA Hairworks schtick that tanked FPS like hell). From what everyone here says, however, it seems that its just poorly optimized in general.
