What is the "dot" in some combos?
Like "Punch, dot,Punch" - what does the dot mean?

It means a short pause between actions, so punch, pause, punch

How short is a short pause? I can almost never seem to get it to work. Especially with the sword equipped. Does the quickness of the attack play a role in how long to pause?

play around with it in practice mode to get a good feel for the timing.

the speed of your weapon swings will affect the timing, so the pause with the sword is going to feel a lot bigger than the pause with the guns.

The next question would be: where and how to enter practice mode?

Press select when a chapter is loading to access the practice mode.

Also, for anyone new to the game: try holding down the attack buttons. All weapons in bayo include very useful charge properties. If you dodge while holding down the attack button you will be able to continue the combo after the dodge. This is important because most of the damage comes from the finishing move in the combo.

Wait, there are gun combos? Whenever I punch with a pistol equipped, it just punches. I can only shoot if I hold the punch button down, or do the circle-shoot thing. Is there a combo in there somewhere?

yea, you can hold, then tap again and keep going. it's probably even easier to do it if you're dodge-offsetting as md2501 described.

a good way to get a feel for dodge offset is with the guns, doing the most useful combo in the game: PKP. for each input, hold the button to get bayo shooting, and while you're still holding the button, hit dodge. now, quickly hit the next button and hold it, repeat the process.

again, like md2501 said, your big damage comes from wicked weaves (combo finishers). the optimal thing to do is short combos you finish quickly.

Yes, this is key to having fun with this game. All weapons include charge properties. Pressing the button vs holding it makes no difference to the game, so when you are doing a Punch Kick Punch combo for the fastest wicked weave in the game, you can either press or hold the buttons. Holding is much better since you are dealing more damage, and you get the opportunity to dodge in the middle of the attack.

The thing is you don't have to be in the enemy's face at all to do the combo. If you are holding down the attack buttons both your pistols and wicked weaves will reach the enemy. You can also anticipate incoming attacks while you are in the middle of the combo: just press dodge and continue with the combo (Punch holdKick Dodge Punch).
