How do you have fun with this game? Seriously.
I adore DMC3/4. They're some of my favorite games ever, I enjoy Ninja Gaiden games even though I'm very proficient at them, I love God Hand. I've beaten most 3d action games I've touched and overall liked the majority of them, even kusoge beat 'em ups.

But Bayonetta just refuses to click with me. I know what dodge offset, I absolutely despise it as a mechanic, the level design is god-awful bottom of the barrel tier there's no redeeming qualities about that aspect, I hate how weak Bayonetta feels as a character, I hate how the bosses are mindless mashfests while Gracious and Glorious are absurdly difficult to fight properly, having to backtrack for Verses is awful and forces me to constantly alt-tab out and look things up on google or I'll get punished, Alfheims counting towards the overall score is a disgraceful oversight.

I've played about 20~ hours and I'm at chapter 10 on normal mode and it frankly feels like this game is harder on NORMAL than DMC is on DMD, which I think is just too much and I'm surprised I never heard people mention this.

I know it just looks like I'm ranting but I really want to hear what makes this game so special to some of you because I feel I SHOULD enjoy it but I don't, I'd love if someone makes it click.

*I've seen basically all the "how to enjoy Bayonetta" videos people will probably link again.

If you're coming into bayonetta from God of war, it's understandable why you'd be underwhelmed. This game on the surface is just a button mash to victory game with a less coherent story.

Sticking around and working on higher difficulty modes will force you to find new, split second strategies. If you expend the time, eventually you'll see why this game has the following that it does. There's a deep system here that takes time to master.

Wait wait wait. Youre saying he'd be disapointed by going from God of War to this? If anything Bayonetta would show how much more fluent and challenging it is compared to God of War. Bayonetta is about experimenting with weapon combinations, and mastering combos for each enemy situation. Bayonetta 2 is better though. It has the color that the first game lacks for the most part.
I meant it's more than the easy button masher god of war is.

Oh. Your second sentence made it look like you said Bayonetta was shallow compared to God pf War xD, GOW is known for button mashing.

I've been playing through this on Switch and for the most part, I like it a lot. It has fun, just like DMC did. That said, the attack broadcasting is very, very, very inconsistent (Some attacks you have to dodge in half a second, some you get three frames before taking damage) and the Red/Blue enemies in particular are just an absolute slog to fight, I'm just flipping around like a jerk and hoping to not take too much damage.

I'd like to switch to PC, but I'm not seeing a way to change controls, so I'm sticking with the small screen for now. Really hope they tuned up the game to be a bit more playable in the sequel, because the problems this game have really do kinda sour the experience for me.

I'm on Stage 10, and haven't HAD to go back and do anything I didn't want to do. I was going for one-life clears at first but I've given up on that at this point, I'll take the Stone Rewards, just roll the credits so I can play something else please (but it's been fun, thank you)

Oddly, though the music is okay in short bursts, I've taken to just turning the in-game music off and playing Spotify tunes on a Bluetooth speaker. Works better for me.

The dodge timing changes depending on the difficulty as well. If you haven’t played Bayonetta 2 yet, it changes a few things like adding animations when enemies are damaged, and a mode similar to the Devil Trigger.
